I am in charge of the food shop. It usually suits me fine, I do all of the cooking, mainly because I am alright at it and OH once tried to grill a chicken pie so we agreed he should just stay out of the kitchen as much as possible.

Today however I asked him what he would like from the shops and he said he would like "something to snack on. Healthy, easy to grab and eat on the go"

He refuses fruit.

What the hell is there that falls into that category?! I feel I should know this but my brain is mush today

(and yes, we do live in the 1950s Wink but ultimately the set up suits us usually and we have been together 15 yrs and I have only recently started to feel a bit stabby so that's something!)

Plain nuts? Cereal bars ( not especially healthy), pre cooked lean meat,

Am struggling although obviously a sandwich can be eaten on the go but perhaps that's not what you mean by snack.

yeah I thought wafer thin ham (thats what I tend to snack on) but just wondered if I was missing something obvious

If you get more stabby, then it might be time for a re think. There's nothing to stop him learning to cook, even 10 year olds can manage spag bol, baked chicken breasts & veg etc.

Grilling a pie is pure stupidity. Surely in 15 years he's grown up a bit?

Carrots, nuts, a little cheese - for this week, after that ne needs to be specific. He's not a toddler & you're not his mother.

Snacks isn't cooking. Let him sort it out himself or tell you what he wants for the shopping list.

Buy him a bag of carrots

That he grilled a pie simply says he needs shown how to work an oven - they aren't complicated. I assume he's au fait with modern technology, uses a mobile etc? Then he can operate a bloody oven.

That's all very well but what would happen if you were incapacitated for a period of time? My FIL had to learn to cook at 75 when MIL broke her arm. He did very well actually but he did say he wished he'd learnt 20 years ago.
Maybe send him to the supermarket to find what he would like to snack on so you can add it to the list.

Or that he's doing it badly on purpose because he doesn't like cooking and wants to avoid the possibility of OP asking him to help out with meals.

I do agree. I should have said 'work out how to use an oven' rather than suggest he is shown.
He's not eight.

I would say nuts, babybels, cereal bars, crackers, prepared meat like fridge raiders.

Could he have a look at online shopping sites to see what choices there are available?

And like you I do the majority of cooking/shopping as dp's idea of dinner and mine are v different and he has no idea about budgeting. It's my choice, he would do it if I asked but it's easier for me to do it how I want it done!!
