AIBU?

Husband isn't liking Santa's quad bike gift! 😜

So Santa bought 6 year old a quad bike. It's only small, wheels not too ridiculous. Daddy won't let him go on it despite us having a great garden for it. He says it will ruin the grass. About to overpower him and go outside. Thought I'd ask if anyone has any thoughts before I churn all the grass up and have to face I told you so all day.

Did you and your DH discuss this gift beforehand?

Have you got a helmet for your child I can't beg you enough to put one on him. I've dealt with too many deaths of adults and children who would have survived if they had worn one.

Thats what grass seed is for!! Sod the scrooge although i really do echo the helmet as a must.

He must have known he was getting one?? Where was he expecting him to ride it?

Why not just take it to your local farmer's fields and ruin their crops instead - every other fucker seems to.

Did you seriously not discuss the gift and where it would be used before buying it?

a toy quad bike or a real one? There is almost nowhere that you can use a real one legally except on your own land (so garden)

How did he not know? An totally same re helmet. Lethal things and huge to store.

Got the helmet. Dh never gets involved in choosing the pressies. We seem to have an unspoken agreement that he doesn't complain what I spend but then wraps up nothing and doesn't dare to complain. This is obviously the exception.

As long as you have a big garden you are fine.

My PIL bought my then 1 year old a quad bike. He's now 2 and he absolutely hates the noise it makes Wink.

What's the point in having a garden but not allowing your kid to play in it?!

Grass is fragile at this time of year due to wet ground . accept that sometimes you have to wait.

And if it is a real quad bike, high risk of a life changing accident.

monkeyfacegrace · 26/12/2016 11:45

Oh crikey it's only 12v, that's just a toy.

It will be fine in the garden.

What's the point in having a garden but not allowing your kid to play in it?!

If it did chew up the grass too much, it might spoil it for other games - that would be my concern. Depends how soft the lawn is at the moment - mine can barely take being walked over in parts at the moment.

It's not really a quad bike is it? It's just a kids ride on toy like you get in toys r us.

time2shine · 26/12/2016 12:43

Yeah, you're right. We're off. It's a kid's toy for goodness sake.

No do not go outside with it.
We had kids wth quads bikes near our old house, up and down the bloody road, it is not fun for the neighbours. ( and why they were not wearing helmets i don't know Shock )
If you've got a big garden then do it, but dh does have a point it may ruin the garden.
If you've had any bad weather where you are and the grounds still damp/muddy it'll wreck it.

GinAndOnIt yep, our old farm too Sad poor animals. I didn't know it wasn't legal to ride them though!

I don't think a 6 year old with a ride on toy is going to tear up and down the road.

Ha ha. Thanks everyone. We've been in the garden. It's slow on the wet grass but we've had fun. Non churned up grass. A real quad bike sounds far more fun!!

I think that's an absolutely ridiculous thing to buy a 6 year old.

And what kind of marriage do you have when you think it's funny to buy a present that your husband doesn't like and then destroy your lawn!

I feel very sorry for your DH. You sound very unpleasant to live with.
