Petra Kvitova...not important enough then?

Grand Slam tennis champion.
Fed cup winner.

Knife held to her throat, she could have been killed.
tennis playing h and damaged so much she's had to have surgery.

But according to the news/newspapers, (apart from the Berlin tragey obviously):

the Queen posing for a photo with Charles.
Kate and Meghan fashion stakes.
katy Price something or other.
The Queen stepping down from some charities even though the other royals will take over.
Xmas traditions.
entertainment news.
India in front on the cricket.

not till page 22 of the express is there a mere mention of Kvitova.
and on the news a little bit squeezed in .

FFS the poor girl could have been killed. she wasn't, so that's okay then not to be important?
If Andy Murray slipped and sprained his ankle hed have been headline, no?

just wonder how newspapers and tv make prioritiees. shes a top sportswoman.

yes, I kNow Berlin and the REussian ambassador and Brexit are important, but to put PK so low down on middler pages of a paper and a teeny paragraph on the sports pages, not even back page news?

There's your problem - right there. Don't buy the Express, it's just hate and cancer stories.

purposely didn't get the Mail

there was only a small pic of PK on the front of the Mirror.

She was mentioned in every news bulletin on the radio yesterday.

I don't listen to the radio at all, but glad she was mentioned there.

What ShowMe said. It reminded me of when Monica Seles was stabbed in 1993.

There was a decent length article in the Times today.

I saw the story on the BBC news website, though I have to admit I didn't know who she was. I'm not a tennis fan.

Namechangeemergency · 21/12/2016 16:06

Like show says, the story was on every news bulletin the day it happened.
I had R4 on all day.

I am not a tennis fan either and have never heard of her.
The horrible crime didn't happen in the UK so I am not surprised its not all over the UK press.

Poor woman. Utterly horrific.

I hadn't until this happened.

Mentioned numerous times on BBC Breakfast this am.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 21/12/2016 18:05

It's top of the BBC sports coverage and in the front page of it's news website.

And she's not a girl, ffs.

WorraLiberty · 21/12/2016 18:06

I'd never heard of her until yesterday and then she was on just about every news bulletin I watched.

Perhaps you need to buy a different newspaper?

Report
WorraLiberty · 21/12/2016 18:08

And what Unmentioned said.

She's either a girl or a sportswoman, but she can't be both.

It was pretty high up on the Guardian website and it was on every news bulletin I heard on the day. The Express eh?
She's just not that famous though. I follow tennis and even I'm not that interested in her. If it had happened to Serena it would be huge news (maybe not for the Express though).

I have to say I've never heard of her. Which is surprising, seeing as I've just looked her up and she's won Wimbledon twice in the last few years. Really horrible story though.

But I don't think you can criticise the Express or the Mail Online for prioritising stories about The Queen or Katie Price. That's obviously what they think their readers are interested in. If you want 'proper' news, read the broadsheets.

Well stop buying newspapers they are all without exception full of crap and turn on the radio 4/5. That's where the proper news is.

Yabu. Buy an actual newspaper. She was on the news quite a bit actually.

What an awful thing to have happened to her Sad

I am not sure who reads newspapers any more. I sure don't!

I have heard at least 3 stories on BBC radio about Petra's attack in last 24 hours, including different developments terible attack-awaiting surgery-out of surgery, and I've been asleep or at work almost all that time.

tbh I hadn't heard of her before this news, I don't follow tennis.

TheNaze73 · 21/12/2016 19:10

I think the story had regular coverage throughout the day on the radio & was covered thoroughly on the news on tv.

YABU however for reading the Express.

The Express would prioritise Diana, and she's been dead for 20 years

Report
BoneyBackJefferson · 21/12/2016 19:16

It has been on many internet news feeds and news sites.

FatherJemimaRacktool · 21/12/2016 19:20

If the Express can't blame it on the EU and/or immigrants, they're not going to bother with it. It was one of the main stories on the BBC news website for hours yesterday.
