While I walk literally 200 yards to the post office round the corner to get gas and avoid a tantrum?
Obviously I know I am but it'd make it so much easier to do... ugh 😑

Of course YWBU, but I remember the tantrums well! Bribery?

Yes. You don't know what could happen there. Massive queue likely at this time of year. Accident. Etc. Social work visit if you're caught.

It's not worth it.

"Come on, get your shoes on, we're going to buy some chocolate"

[been doing this parenting thing for 21 years emoticon]

You know you're being unreasonable. But it's so tempting. Queuing with a tantrumming threenager. Angry

BigDamnHero · 19/12/2016 15:02

Isadora, the OP has clearly said she knows it would be unreasonable and won't do it but wishes she could.

SmegHead, can you bundle him up, go out and play spot the robins/Christmas lights/whatever. Quickly run errands and get back home for a cup or tea and a mince pie to de-stress after inevitable tantrum. Good luck!

I used to do 'race you to the shop -winner gets a prize!' and then obviously chug along at snails pace to lose, buy a Freddo or Fudge for them and lose a race back.

Yes, but understand the temptation. We have a Tesco at the end of our street, and the amount of times I've been tempted to just nip there for milk leaving my son at home. It'd be less time than the time it would take to get his shoes on Wink

Ill take it that this is a wind up.
Of course its unreasonable. Anything can happen.
My mums boyfriend's sister lost 2 little boys. I think they were around 2 and 5. She went over to her neighbour probably to lend something or take it back, anyway in doing so She left her 2 little boys. Obviously thought it was okay to do so. She was only going for a few minutes. In that time however. Her little ones were playing with aerosols by the fire and next second a massive fire ball came from nowhere. Her 2 little boys perished.

Take him and do the bribery with chocolate thing.

pipsqueak25 · 19/12/2016 15:04

yabu, sorry, but tantrums are part and parcel of being a parent, you are the parent and in charge,so dc does as they are told, only buy the chocolate if you want to for good behaviour, i was never keen on the bribe aspect but sometimes needs must.

I use Bertrand's tactic. Only been at this lark for 5 years but shameless use of bribery is always the answer 😁

MistressMerryWeather · 19/12/2016 15:07

Can you give him something to post as a special job?

And the promise of chocolate of course.

Christ spider I was taking the piss! Obviously I'd never leave him in the house by himself for more than to run to the bin at the back door... ive bribed him by saying if he comes he can wear his Spider-Man suit... now I've just got to psych myself up for the tantrum when he can't have whichever toy he sees and wants... I mean really who puts plastic tat toys in a post office ffs Confused

Send him to the shops to do the errands whilst you have 5 minutes peace? Smile

Oh do pardon me for not being psychic. Hmm.
Naughty spider. (Slaps hand)

Haha two I wish... but sadly child endangerment by letting them loose with no road sense is also frowned upon... and spider it says lighthearted in the title... no need to have a bee up your bonnet is there

I used to daydream about getting one of those big dog training cages and padlocking the dc in there while I ran my errands, of course, I never did. That does go without saying, right? Sometime people take stuff a bit too literally on the Internet. I had to resort to bribery in the same way most non-perfect just muddling through parents do. Yep, chocolate or your child's preferred treat is the way to go.

midnight eyup that's an idea! Could do with one of them for when I go for a wee and he PULLS THE CHRISTMAS TREE IN BITS!! I've given up. It's practically a fuzzy green pole with 4 baubles stuck in it... why do we have these child creatures? No one told me that 3 year olds could be this unreasonable!! cries into a bottle of gin

Ah yes, I have a threenager. I am not above bribery or deception. Although in my dreams I would gaffer tape the two-legged tornado to the fridge for 5 minutes while I nipped out for a fag to conduct important business.

Does it get easier when they get to 4? (Please tell me it gets easier when they get to 4)
