To wonder when Mumsnet stopped being a place for mums?

I used to frequent the site years ago and have come back recently because I became a mum again! However, whilst I am all for equality, the site seems to be full of people who aren't mums or aren't even parents! (and a good few who are journalists hunting for stories!).

I would never suggest anyone be excluded from the warmth, breadth of knowledge or bat shit crazy hysteria that the site offers, I was just wondering when it stopped being a place mainly for mums?

(I am not suggesting dads or non parents aren't welcome, just curious as to when the shift happened?).

The other day

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 04:22:26

Btw you have posted twice about this

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 04:48:17

Yeah, my internet crashed!

echt Sat 19-Nov-16 04:56:13

I've been on MN for yonks, and can't say I've noticed any shift.

The first time I came across MN was as a teacher. I post as a gardener. I've posted as recently bereaved.

I don't think I've ever posted anything to do with being a mother, though I am one.

The qualifications of others, as mums or parents has never crossed my mind.

Well according to the other thread, it's symptomatic of the downhill slide of the site hmm

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 05:28:12

FWIW I never said it was a down slide and I never used the word odd! I just haven't been here in years, only came back because I'd had another child!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 05:31:25

No it was another poster that said it was the non parents, journos, transactivists etc contributing to the backslide.

I just don't get why you would notice or that it would bother you. I have been here years and it's always the newbies (or new returners) that start these threads.

Or the Goady Fuckers...they like a good goady thread 'after hours' on a Friday night. I'm should remember that before rising to the bait.

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 05:41:07

Lol@goady fuckers!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 05:46:03

Good point Could

Why else start two threads about this at 4.00 am?

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 05:50:52

Because, my internet crashed (hence two posts) and my baby was awake (well asleep, but stirring!).

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 05:56:31

I just get fucked off that when someone posts about this, people pile in and start saying it's 'odd' and a 'backslide' and we then have to justify ourselves by explaining yet again that the site has a lot of topics.

If you search you will see a fuckload of posts on this subject, it might have saved you the hassle grin

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 06:01:18

Maybe, but they would t have been my post!

OMG this is the problem with you non parents - thinking we parents have time to search archives instead of being allowed to post our own threads!!!!

wink

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 06:01:45

*but, then it wouldn't have been...

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 06:04:52

OMG this is the problem with you non parents - thinking we parents have time to search archives instead of being allowed to post our own threads!!!!

hmm Wow.

Post what you like but when you sre being goady, don't then be all wide eyed and surprised that people react

Fenced Sat 19-Nov-16 06:06:32

Wow - sarcasm is clearly lost on you...

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 06:08:06

Given I'm not psychic and the only indicator was the wink, which is basically rather PA, it clearly is....

friendswithacat Sat 19-Nov-16 06:09:02

Fenced, it might have been sarcastic but it didn't come over particularly nicely to be honest.

It's called mumsnet and all is good but it's really more 'womensnet' imo.

friendswithacat Sat 19-Nov-16 06:10:01

Sorry, I pressed post too soon!

Read your posts and imagine how they might come across to someone who desperately wants a baby and can't have one for whatever reason.

SoupDragon Sat 19-Nov-16 06:27:56

It's been like this for years and years. Unless someone explicitly said they have no children, you wouldn't have known when you were last here. Or now.

SarahMacey44 Sat 19-Nov-16 06:40:56

I think it could cover a lot more topics and stories as long as it's not d too offensive and or dirty. As long as it's relatable and sesible, I guess it would be just fine.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 06:52:17

Sorry - what shouldn't be offensive or dirty?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Sat 19-Nov-16 06:58:30

OP is a rape apologist so probably not worth taking her views into account
