AIBU?

to sign her up for all sorts of emails?

there is a lady who lives in the usa who has a very similar email address to me. over the years I have received a lot of her emails, and whilst I passed them on for ages, when I never got a single thank you, I gave up. (I used to reply to people to say they had the wrong address, and eventually she did email me to say "i'm the scarednoob that they want and my email address is xxx not xxxx", so I KNOW it's her!)

it's been annoying for ages, but recently she has gotten worse and worse and more and more careless in giving out her own email address, to the extent that I get numerous emails for her per day. I get her bank stuff; her travel details; her kids' invitations and school reports; round robins from friends (one hen trip to vegas and I got about 150 emails in a day!) - and most infuriatingly of all, I get all her e-receipts and follow-up advertising emails, multiple times a week, from just about every single store you could imagine, and quite a few that you couldn't.

I do unsubscribe, but most of them don't really unsubscribe you, and you continue getting emails. fucking free people - I must have tried to unsubscribe about 50 times, but they still email me 3 times a day. all because she bought something shitty from there a few months ago. arrrrrrrgh, the rage.

WIBU to sign her up for a few things in return, and if so, what would you recommend - who is really persistent/embarrassing? (I won't really do it, but it's quite tempting to imagine her being bombarded with ann summers and estate agency offers as I delete and unsubscribe from the millionth email of the week...)

I don't want to be the boring one but I think I'd just get a new email address Blush

Sign her up to this: Grin

eg.
"Hello x,

Millions of humans from all walks of life have experienced the Illuminati's symbol: the Pyramid, the Eye, the Light, and the Eternal Circle. These four marks have permeated human development for centuries, bringing clarity amidst decisions and guiding the lost to the Light.

Since the start of the Illuminati's public outreach, our Department Of Distribution (DODIS) has offered citizens authentic items bearing the Illuminati's symbol. After careful design, DODIS is pleased to reveal our stunning new item: the Trifecta Elite..."

It will REALLY freak her out.

I had someone who kept using my email address for ages. She had an Instagram set up where she used vile language and posted horrible pictures and I was concerned future employers might think it was me, but the last straw was when she ordered a really hideous pair of trousers with emojis printed all over them. I started doing the 'forgot my password' thing for her accounts so I'd get an email and could change her password and she would be locked out, and cancelling her orders. I know it was a bit mean but she hasn't used my email address since.

Hahaha pants with emojis on them? That's a thing?!

I could change my address but I've had it for over 20 years (old!) and I don't really want to IYSWIM.

Can you reply to a few of the social invitations with something embarrassing- "sorry, cinema sounds lovely but would be a nightmare with these haemorrhoids", "I can't make that, as Thursday is the night I trim my nipple hairs".

Might make her more careful Grin

Get a new email address and change all your important stuff (bank account, school etc) to that email so she doesn't get your personal stuff.

Or:
Step 1. Go into spam folder.
Step 2. Find something weird eg. porn ads
Step 3. Copy the email address
Step 4. Go into settings and choose for all emails from that address to be redirected to her.
Step 5. Laugh

Rather than unsubscribe, block the senders. The fuckers won'tget through then. And yes sign her up to some stuff, perhaps a singers site or suchlike

I get emails from someone similarly lax about the email address they give out. I haven't a clue what her real email address is but from my experience the following are quite irritating; car dealerships and their regular 'offers', and job agencies. Sign her up for a really generic job interest (catering, hospitality?) then visit your local (online) luxury car dealership and there will be endless offers coming through.

Why would OP need to do that ? presumably the OP gives out the correct ie her email address...its the other person being a fuckwit..

I would go with changing all her passwords to fucktwatface

See if you can just change your email address? We are with BT and you can set up multiple email addresses for the same account. Dh has several alternatives for different purposes.

There are websites that send prayers to people who need them. You enter your email address and they send them to their faithful so they can send personalised messages. Someone at work (who is a total arsehole) got subscribed to several by a disgruntled client and the traffic was so bad, it slowed down email for a company of over 3000 people for a week. They had to change his address as well.

I've felt tempted on the odd occasion to use this strategy but have resisted so far. It's fun to fantasise though

I had this with someone with the same name in Australia. Got loads of spam and angry people who wanted money from her. Just gave up on that account in the end and went to a different email provider. It's hassle but worth it in the end.

Hmmm - as it is for sales stuff mostly I'd say she is DELIBERATELY giving the wrong email address.

I occasionally get emails for a South African doctor. He is Be.MorePanda with a dot.

The other day I got one from his friends saying yes you are right Hilary Clinton is a bitch and I hope Trump wins.

I very colourfully let them know they had sent their vile thoughts to the Wrong person. NO reply strangely.

OP you can mark all incorrect emails as SPAM - so you won't see any future ones.

And I like EarSlaps idea - "sorry I'm tied to the loo with dysentery", "I'd love to but I don;t want too", "you emails are giving me the shits" - be rude! And CC in her correct address :)

Amazon seem to send me a thousand emails a day. And they send stuff based on what I've browsed or put in my basket. Maybe you could sign her up and start looking at all kinds of dodgy stuff, put loads of it in your basket and she should start getting emails recommending those or similar products.

Most places if you subscribe you have to confirm the subscription via an email they send you so I don't see how you can sign her up to stuff?
