Have an acquaintance who I heard a recently had been done for numerous counts of shop lifting. It was more rumors at first but now its in the papers.
I have heard that they are subject to a curfew order. I always thought that they were from 6pm-6am. Yet the person has been repeatedly seen miles from home well after 6pm.

Am i being unreasonable to shop them, also how does one fo about it? Just feel that these things need to be taken seriously otherwise it could be a slippery slope to more offences.

Curfew orders are not standard, they can have different restrictions depending on what the judge feels is best. I'd keep out of it if I were you.

Why would you want to report her that seems very unkind if she has a tag "they" will know is isn't at home

Not sure where you are but in Scotland certainly curfew can be from whenever the court makes it. Usually they start at 10pm but it depends what they want to prevent. In a shoplifting case I would more likely expect to see a ban on entering shops. I would want to be clear on the order and its times before reporting her. Again, here, it would be a police matter but if you have no idea what the order actually says then I doubt they would follow it up.

Thank you for opinions. I shall indeed mind my own business. Just wanted to see what consensus was. Guess it shows how pointless curfew orders are if they are disregarded by offenders and the police are unlikely to follow it up.
Just seems sad as they are not even in 20s but have such a disregard for the law already.
If thay was me it would have scared the crap out of me and probably been the slap in the face i needed.

Agreed the curfew isn't a set time for everyone.they take into account family circumstances so if she needed to put her elderly mother to bed at 8 pm then it may be 9 pm. I wouldn't shop her but I would be making sure I shut my windows etc when out.

Also confused. I didn't say the police would disregard an actual breach of curfew. I said they would be unlikely to follow up a report of "I think someone's on a curfew but I don't know and I don't know the times and I don't really know them and I have heard reports that they have maybe breached it".

If you know for certain the times and that she is not abiding by it of course they would follow it up.

I knew someone on tag 8am-8pm. And you don't even know if she definitely has a curfew.

I've literally just read a newspaper story about someone on tag whose curfew was 8am-8pm.

They do vary, and the likelihood is that her curfew is standard shop opening hours, given the nature of the charge. So possibly 8 am. until 6 pm.

I suppose it depends on where you live, but here, even the local newsagents doesn't close until 7.30pm.

Perhaps you should take your need to ensure young people who break the law follow through with their sentence and realise the error of their ways and apply that need in a more positive way by volunteering with a scheme that helps supporting young ex-offenders.
