AIBU worry about my DS sleeping on the floor

My STB 4yr old has decided tonight to sleep on the floor next to his bed, he's taken his pillows and duvet and is fast asleep now

he's done this once or twice before, he gets quite hot at night and I wonder if he feels a bit cooler on the floor? Or if it's just a novelty? In the past I've put him back on his bed when I've got to sleep, but this seems to confuse him a bit and he's woken up in the night upset and come to my room

It doesn't feel right to let him sleep on the floor? But should I just let him if it's not very often, just make sure it doesn't become a habit? Or will it cause him problems sleeping on the floor? Aches and pains type things?

Presumably our ancestors didn't have beds and everyone slept on the ground. I'd just let him get on with it. (Full disclosure - I'm not a parent.)

Id be inclined to just leave him there too to be honest.
If he's uncomfortable he'll wake up surely?

Most of the world doesn't sleep in mattressed beds. DD used to do it and I didn't see any harm.

I used to sleep on the floor all the time :)

Even now if I can't sleep in bed if I get on the floor I'm asleep in seconds!

My dad used to find me sleeping in all sorts of weird places!

I must say my instinct was to leave him, he's obviously comfortable there, he was asleep in seconds!

Apparently my dad exclusively slept on the floor for about half his childhood!

My son does that occasionally (he's a teenager!) and he likes to sleep on the sofa too on weekends. No idea why but I've never worried about it, except to say don't sleep right up against the radiator in the winter. 🔥☺️

All three of mine have done this at times. Ds1 did it for months when he was four or five.

In Korea and Japan it's the norm to sleep on the floor. My kids just slept on duvets on the floor when they stayed at my mums, up until they were about 4. Supposed to be good for your back too!

Our DS is off to nursery in September. It's a montessori school and they all nap on little mattresses on the floor.

I used to do this. Sometimes if I was too hot but often I just preferred it.

DSS took to sleeping on the floor in a pop up tent when he was around that age. We just let him get on with it - until he complained that his back had started to hurt after three or four nights!

I'd move him to bed and put a light sheet over him. My son is 3 and wouldn't wake, or if he did he'd settle back quickly. So it depends whether you have a light sleeper or not.

He'll come to no harm on the floor, he must be comfy to have fallen asleep there.

My 5 year old dd does it.
If I'm really lucky she puts the pop up sun tent up to sleep in during the holidays so that she's camping (& I'm falling over it to get to drawers & wardrobe)

It's really quite cosy under there, I can totally see the attraction.

After 3 non sleepers I am no longer fussed where they sleep, as long as they do sleep!

My 4 yo DD died this from time to time too. She also gets too hot in bed. She's quite happy on the floor, so I leave her there.

Leave him there. As a child (and now) I was a restless sleeper and often fell out of my small single bed then spent the rest of the night on the floor. At first my DP picked me up but after a while they just made sure the floor area was clear and kept me in a low bed.

I slept on the floor pretty much 90% of the time as a child. It's so lovely, all the freedom to move around without constraints.

When dp and I first had our DC, we lived in a tiny one bedroom flat and had a sofa bed for ourselves in the front room. Sometimes we just slept with me on the floor and dp on the sofa. It was absolutely blissful!
It would seem wrong to do away with my bed completely but I have been known to get a spare duvet and stretch out for the night on the floor in recent times. I feel it's so good for my back somehow.

I wouldn#t worry about it. One of mine went through a phase where she would only sleep on cushions inside a fort erected in her bedroom.
