to ask what time your children get to bed?

For various reasons the bedtime routine I've had for my children (DS6 and DD3) has fallen by the wayside, basically I was hospitalised then was recovering and v tired, and so DH took over care of the kids in the evening. DH has done a great job but now the nighttime routine seems to take forever, the DC are used to staying up later and now they rarely make it into bed and asleep before 10:30. My 3 year old is the worst, she seems full of energy at 10pm at night but she needs her sleep!

My husband is quite relaxed about this but I think it's way too late. Now I'm feeling better I've taken over the evenings again and I'm just wondering, what time do people normally get their 6 year olds and 3 year olds to bed?

My 9 year old is asleep at 8. When he was 6 it was 7, and he totally needed that.

I have 7, 5 & 2. The 2yr old naps for an hour each day.

5yr old does story at 7pm, in bed by half-past. 7yr old does reading about 7:30pm, in bed bit before 8pm and gets to read himself for 10mins before lights out. 2yr old then gets ready at 8pm, story and in bed. So everyone is well asleep by 8:30pm.

My lot are early risers though - up about 6am most days. Toddler up about 7:30am

Mine are down by 8pm, sometimes 9pm on a weekend if we've been out but that's a rarity. They're 5 and 3.
If they stayed up much later than that we'd have tantrums to contend with.

3 year old DS is in bed and asleep by 7.15pm then up at some point between 6.15 and 7am. He can hardly keep his eyes open if he's up any later.

I think just try and reduce it slowly? Fifteen minutes earlier each night/couple of nights/a week and aim for 9, then eight thirty?

You don't need to worry what other people do :o

I am lucky, my dc like their sleep. My 9 year old put herself to bed this evening at 6.50 and was asleep by 7. 12 year old asleep now at 7.30 too. The bedtime routine starts early or they are too tired to do it. I would start with bath and pyjamas at 6.

They are early risers though.

Aim for bed at 730, they are asleep by 8pm. Occasionally later at the weekend or if DH is late home. Mine are 3 and 6. 6yr old will be up between 530-6 and the 3 year old between 7-8

DS 11 has a 9 pm bedtime. It was 7 pm until...not sure actually? I think he was still 7 pm age 6.

I would slowly reduce it back. However, DS has a friend who simply doesn't have a bedtime and goes to bed when he is tired. He has always been the most polite and genuinely lovely child (also academically top out of nearly 300 students in his year 7 age group) so...I've relaxed a little. He never seems tired!
