To be really excited about bathing with the baby?

This week my back started getting the better of me while bathing the baby. So I thought sod it, and got in as well.

My word it is so much fun! she has all these toys and accessories that I never did as a child. we have bath crayons and a water mill and a rattle. I've just got a bubble machine and started adding scents to the room. It's ace! I can't wait for my bath tonight.

If any other mums do this, can I ask for more toy recommendations too?

I love bathing with the kids! I recommend plain old plastic cups and empty bottles - both of mine would still play with these every time if they could and DS is 4 now.

Glad your having fun! Not for me though I have my baby with me all day and co-sleep too so I like my bath to myself!!

I used to have 2 baths, one with Dd when she was a newborn and another grown up one.

I think she was close to 9 months before we stopped having baths together.

I love bathing with my two year old. So does DP so we take it in turns. So much more fun sitting playing with him as opposed to getting soaked whilst trying to keep him reasonably still. He'll also let me give his teeth a really good scrub in the bath if I let him "clean" mine at the same time.

If we have another I plan to bath with them from the start. It's lovely. I genuinely look forward to bath time most nights.

Oh as for recommendations - lush do some bath bombs that are suitable for babies, we've had a lot of fun with them. They also do mouldable soap.

We also have lots of fun with stacking cups that have little holes in the bottom, lots of time is spent cleaning his wind up duck and water scoosher Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy, and he loves using the cup to pour water over his head.

She's just over a year old. It sounds like I could be doing this for a few years then...

Yanbu if you enjoy it. I like my bath borderline scalding so not sure the kids could cope! And they'd splash my book. And eat my chocolate (shock horror I eat in the bath!!)

Actually yabvu GrinWink

Love bathing with 4 month old, but by the looks of other posters we need more toys. I do also like my grown up bath afterwards too.

I've just started doing this! I bought a bubble machine last week (it was half price in Sainsbury's and I couldn't resist) so thought I'd put my 9 month old in the bath to play. Then thought it would probably be safer if I got in too! Unfortunately it was the day the boiler broke so there wasn't much hot water left so we didn't get to stay in long, but we'll be doing it again Smile.

Oh goodness no. My baths are for me only and I like them hot.

Both my kids got in with me until they were about 7. Both girls loved having that one to one time with me and my favourite thing was bubbles and we made foamy beards and hair.

I was trying to relax in the bath at the weekend and found myself gate crashed by my 2 year old and 5 year old who stripped off and launched in. They like it at my depth!

And, a handful of bubbles, blow hard and it snows! Other thing I did with dd 2 was she lay in the bath and I dropped soggy sponges or wet flannel on her tummy and she found that hilarious.

Tomy bath penguins - no idea why they amuse me so much but they really do.

I love to bathe with DS when I can but I don't like getting in and out with him alone so I do it when DH is around to put him in and out! I like bath books and squirty toys and stacking cups to pour water between. I might brave a bath alone with him some time as DH is rarely back at bath time!

DD didn't bath alone for her first 8 months or so, and rarely after that. Loved it. (I did own a load of children's bath toys even when we didn't have her though. The musical dolphin set is mine! Grin)

Thanks all! I've have added some of your lovely suggestions above to my Amazon basket. And in the meantime I have added a waterproof radio to bring some (non Vtech) music to the experience. Today's bath was brought to you by jazz/funk and strawberry scents.

I make bath paint out of a few drops of food coloring, talc and bubble bath. We didn't get on well with bath crayons (stains still on the grout to prove it)...but dd loves bath paint as she can be painted too!

Glow sticks in the bath is one of the things I enjoy most when it gets dark early enough in the evening. Shaving foam as well as bubbles. We've shaired the odd jelly bath too!

Can't manage to sit up in the bath long enough to play with her at the moment or get in and out easily. But looking forward to having two of them in with me in the not too distant future. When I do manage to get in the bath at the moment dd sits next to me and very serriously washes me with her bath mits and puts toys on my stomach for bump to kick off.

I love bathing with ds. He's 18 months, we started when he was around 1. Current favourite toy (and by far the cheapest) is the stacking pots I bought from ikea last week. They have different holes in each one, brightly coloured, they stack into a big tower or inside each other. He thinks they're great. Bathtime together is so much more fun than bathing him.

Aww - I never really bathed with mine as 1. I'm not really a bath person, 2. I went back to work when DS1 was 4 months and was already pregnant so was permanently knackered and couldn't fit a bath in for me. DH used to bath DS1 before he took him to the CM and went to work on a back shift. 3. When things got calmer I was an enormous pregnant person and it was too dangerous for me and DS1 to be in the bath together as DH was out at work. 4. When I was no longer pregnant I then had two babies so they tended to share :) 5. when they got big enough to not be as slippery, there was no bloody room!

Their best toys were a little watering can and a tea pot. Till DS2 got his penis stuck in the spout that was....then we had to take it away! :o
