AIBU?

To think that Royal Mail are a sack of shit!

Tried to post a parcel today, only to be told that it would sit at the Post Office until Tuesday! No uplifts till then.

Recently sent a card special "guaranteed next day" delivery. It arrived 3 days later. That cost me £6.45. For a bloody card!

DSis posted my Christmas card on 16th Dec - it arrived AFTER Christmas.

I ordered a game on-line on 20th Dec - it's STILL not here (yep, Royal Mail are who it's been posted with).

Grrr.

DSS' birthday is today and ALL his cards had small tears in the envelope where some git had been checking them for money.

Well I posted a parcel at 3 o clock yesterday it was delivered at 12.45 today. And it was meant to be 48 hour service. So it can't be that bad.

They can only do their best i suppose. They probably had a lot of mail to do with over xmas and maybe it couldn't all be done in the end. Unlucky to have a triple let down though.

My mom sent four packages from the States 2 weeks before Christmas. Three made it before the 25th.. still waiting on one to come though. I am a bit worried now. The tracking stopped as soon as it left the US so I know it is somewhere here. Fingers crossed it gets to us eventually.

Ordered a DVD at the end of November which was sent by Royal Mail, it didn't arrive. I called Tesco on December 15th to query this and they said they'd send another which they dispatched (again with RM) later that day. Still no sign of it.

Thank you for reminding me OP that I need to claim compensation for a Special Delivery parcel which I sent before Christmas which didn't arrive for 2 days. The item in the parcel was perishable which is why I used guaranteed next day delivery. Not to mention the fact that the recipients NDN stayed in to await said parcel on it's due day!

JE1234 When I send cards with vouchers/money in for birthdays, I always send them in jiffy envelopes so it looks like something other than a greetings card. Doesn't usually cost any extra in postage and I re-use old envelopes. It is well known that dodgy postmen/women will target cards especially if addressed to miss/master. Thankfully (before i get flamed) most postal workers are honest. DS had a card delivered for his birthday which wasn't sealed (think the glue hadn't held properly) and I knew it was likely to contain cash. I checked before I gave it to DS (as he was away from home at the time) and the cash was still in there.

I think its rare that post workers steal from letters. You hear about it everynow and then but i don't think its very common.

We've had a few birthday cards slit open, but our family transfer money to my bank for the DC and send a card for them to open. Some RM workers are clearly scum for doing this.

RM, IME, are rubbish. I have friends birthdays in December and I always send their cards early so they get them before or on the day. However, we might just be unlucky round here.

Yabu. They're busy this time of year. You shouldn't moan if you've left it late to post things.

Still waiting for a recorded delivery from a government dept, sent end of nov... 'Lost in tracking'

Loads of unregistered mail goes missing here, the post office even sent me a letter o apology. Never received it!

But things I send, either almost instant or they take weeks.

They are mostly useless.

First point I don't think you can moan. I'm guessing it was after the post was collected at lunchtime? It's pretty much holidays (apart from Saturday) until Tuesday. The post office website will have had all this lists on their website. This applies to most businesses, not just RM.

Actually I have been thinking they are rather wonderful! DS received a Christmas card with a tenner in it. Kind sender had put no stamp on the envelope, and while the street address was correct, the city and post code were wildly off. I was amazed and delighted when it arrived!

I find it really hard to criticise Royal Mail as I send and receive plenty of letters and parcels and (touching wood here that my luck wont change) I've only ever had one problem and that was when the Postman forgot to put a card through the door to say he'd tried to deliver a parcel, and the item sat in the Sorting Office for the required number of days before it was returned to sender and the sender got in touch with me. It may be that I live in a 'naice' area which employs only trustworthy people but the items I post go here there and everywhere and have always been received intact.

I think we can only judge as we find ... and if anyone mentions Hermes to me it's like red rag to a bull!!.

Amazon on the other-hand I'm amazed by. I ordered a hard to find elsewhere book on a Saturday afternoon that needed me to pay for postage. I paid for standard delivery only and it turned up before lunch-time the next day. How they managed that I'll never know!

Did you double check your posting dates and times of collection from the PO?

I think YABU. I've worked incredibly hard as a postie for over 10 years and I hate it when people are so quick to moan. Especially when they are at fault.

I had a thread on here before Christmas money had been taken from a card from Elderly relative...

I think when things go wrong it is easy to blame the whole company...

Monday isn't a bank holiday in England and Wales, only in Scotland.

You should have (still can I think) claimed back for the guaranteed next day card.

If you think RM are bad, try UKMail. They lasted about three weeks at work until their huge contract was cancelled and we went back to RM Grin

Thankfully there wasn't any money in any of them. None of our family send money in the post but it still is frustrating that they had been tampered with. We sent a complaint to Royal Mail as it is not the first time we have had problems recently.

Good and bad in all service type jobs, unfortunately.

I was the only one waiting in the queue, in my local PO, while the counter assistant was busy with paperwork. She then put up a 'position closed' notice and said, "it's 4 o'clock. We're closed"!

I now go to a nearby PO where the counter staff are lovely. It's worth the petrol.

Got home today to find a missed delivery card saying a parcel was in my wheely bin. And the bin was empty, so I had to tip the damned thing on its side to get the parcel out. Unbelievable.

A complaint has been made...
