He sounds like no one I've ever heard and more like a caricature of a northerner! Honestly it winds me up whenever I see him. Sorry.

He isn't a northerner. That's why!

Also, no need to apologise. He does my nut in too.

Hmm
He sounds just like a large percentage of men from Greater Manchester. He is perfectly well spoken and clear and I've never had any trouble understanding him. Regional accents are one of the joys of being British IMO.
Oh and I'm a Southerner btw.

Is he not? Ah I didn't realise - I assumed he was just hamming up his accent or something Grin

It's a fake yorkshire accent but they do talk like that!

That should say GM across the Pennines towards West Yorkshire.

Yes, but Bessie so is the actor who plays Mr Bloom Hmm. He's from Cornwall.

And it all sounds the Manc equivalent to "see you Jimmie" to my ears, which grates.

It is a fake lancashire accent, I can assure you Yorkshire folk do NOT talk like that Angry

Actually, the accent would be ok if it wasn't for the whole thigh slapping, thumbs in braces persona.

Shock
Is that really not his accent? I take it all back. I met him out of character at the BBC in Salford and that was his he spoke. He didn't use the word tiddler though But he definitely spoke with the same accent.

I don't think it's a Yorkshire accent. More Oldham/Rochdale way to my ears. But clearly not. Why would he continue to speak that way when not being 'Mr Bloom'? Bizarre.

He went to theatre school in Leeds so presumably got his inspiration there.

Aha! Wikipedia tells me he's from Cornwall educated in Leeds. That is pretty much exactly how he sounds!!

I actually googled him recently as he sounded far too northern. He is actually from Truro IRL but studied at Leeds uni.

And yes, living not far from Leeds myself, no-one in Yorkshire sounds like him.

What accent is he supposed to have on that Youtube clip. Sounds pretty accentless to me! Confused

Headofthehive55 · 08/12/2015 14:24

Yes he sounds quite normal to me! Wakefield / Barnsley.

I will not hear a word said against the dreamy Mr. Bloom, whether slapping his thighs and faking an accent or not!

Pastamancer · 08/12/2015 14:29

Can't hear any accent in that interview but it was very quiet and not very clear. Truro doesn't tend to be a particularly broad accent, that's more of a Mid Cornwall/West Cornwall trait although us Southern Cornish do occasionally break out into an accent Jethro would be proud of :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

He sounds Northern to me. He's not broad...but he is definitely Northern.

I've heard him on breakfast TV and that is not his usual voice - just one he uses for that character. He's not northern.

Oh no I love his fake accent, wherever it is meant to be from. I do have a bit of a soft spot for Mr Bloom Blush
