We're having a new front door fitted tomorrow morning.

When they rang to give us the installation date they said they'd be here between 8-8.30 and i asked them to make it later because i have two kids to get ready for school and my oldest has Autism and its REALLY important his morning routine isn't disturbed.

I also have two cats in the house who i will need to shut away for the duration.

They guy said fine, they'd be there about 10.

I got a call at 8.30pm this evening while i was out (DH didnt get to the phone in time) and a message they'll be here between 8-8.30.

They didnt leave a number, their help desk doesn't open until 9am.

AIBU to refuse to let them in tomorrow morning and make them wait until i have got back from taking the kids to school and refer them to the conversation i had with their installation booking people?

No I don't think that you'd be UR in saying that.

Well you can't expect them to wait. They will prob go on to next job leaving you to re book

I think that's fine as you had arranged with them to come at 10.
If they turn up at a different time, then they can't expect you to be there, as you'd already discussed it with them and agreed a different appt time. So I think you shouldn't have to rebook and would be quite within your rights to expect them to come at the time they are booked in.

Exactly Back!

Its not like i haven't been open about Ds's issues, we're having a lowered step put in so he doesn't keep tripping over it ffs... the paperwork makes it clear its disabled access!

The new door is being fitted for DS's benefit as he's a bolter and he's nearly wrecked the old one trying to get out the house!

Yanbu. It's their tough shit.

You shouldnt have to mention your son's condition. An arrangement has been made and the reasons are irrelevant.

YANBU at all,I hate when that kind of thing happens and you've done everything right but they can't make it right they're end.

We have 2DC that are autistic(5DC in total)and someone messing up your LO's timetable is not what you need.

I hope they don't come till after 9 and if they do come before hand I'd just tell them after all it's not your fault the mistake has been made at they're office.

I hope the new door helps your DS,anything that can make your lifes easier is worth having Smile

Do any of you have any idea how long it takes to fit a door properly. Starting any later than 9 to 9.30 you would have problems at the other end of the day.

No YANBU however don't expect your circumstances to make a difference, they will go on to next job and you may have to Get a new appointment. I've been having similar issues with bloody Internet company they are being so shit Angry

It doesn't matter how long it takes tbh. They made an agreement and then tried to back track to make it more convenient for themselves.

Umm, the door fitting isnt being done for the company's convenience! It is for the OP's convenience. If it takes longer at the other end then that is the employer's problem for agreeing to a 10am start! If they cant do it in that time then they should have informed OP and allowed her the choice to go with another company.

agnes, maybe, just maybe that is because a parent with an autistic child is more likely to need support, so more likely to seek it out, so more likely to be on MN than parents who go sailing through life with no problems!

Obviously I am aware there are other issues that make people seek out support too.

And attitudes like this are one of the many reasons people with autism are treated like shit in our society.
Perhaps the poster is the the Aunt in another thread that refuses to compromise at Xmas thus upsetting the lad with autism.
