To lie about dcs' ages?

We went to a pool we'd never visited before and it was lovely. However, there was a rule that all dc under 4 must wear swim nappies. Dtds are 3.9 and have been fully potty trained since 2.2. Obviously I know this isn't true for many dc but we don't even own normal nappies so hadn't taken any swim ones. Never occurred to us. Family in front were told about the rule so when the lady told us I said they were 4.

Really I'm curious if anyone else has come across this rule? I've seen signs saying unless dc are fully potty trained please use a swim nappy but dc under 4? I'm not sure how dtds would have taken to me trying to get them into nappies.

I say its fine to lie about things when the rules don't make sense i.e. rules based on age when its really about whether they need nappies regardless of age.

Absolutely lie about this one! I have never seen this rule for under 4's. My ds is 3.5 years and would be mortified if I tried to put him back in a swim nappy when he hasn't had to wear one for the past 6 months

Does someone know what has to happen after someone has defecated in a pool? Because I'm pretty sure it's not just fishing it out and carrying on as normal.

I would err on the side of caution as well.

DS was fully potty trained day & night by 2:8, why on earth would I put him in a nappy while swimming for over a year afterwards?!
You can't put an age on these kind of things, it should just be "until they're reliably potty trained" which I would think if they're not then the parents would put a swim nappy on anyway, so I suppose no need for a rule atall?!

Bloody hell! my ds hasn't worn a day time nappy since 2! i would certainly lie about his age. what a stupid rule!

They've obviously had a problem with this so have put a very old age limit to try to stop it.

I'm assuming it's been an issue for them. There was a sign so no misunderstanding. Glad I'm not alone finding it ott. There's the same chance of dd1 pooing in the pool as dtds and she's 7 - they just wouldnt.

Gamer - you won't like this.... I had a friend years ago that worked at a pool where an adult pooped in the water, and yes they just fished it out with a net and put a lot more chlorine in it. Apparently it costs a small fortune to empty, clean, refill and reheat a pool so its done very rarely

In this case, YANBU - but I do wonder what would have happened if one of them had had an accident - might you have been held liable to pay for the cleanup if they'd then demanded proof of age?

What a weird rule.

We were on holiday in Majorca 2 years ago and a child do a poo in the pool. They fished it out with a net, put some powder stuff down in the area, left it 15 mins and most people got back in. I didn't, neither did DS2 or DH and I was glad to be going home the next day!

Our pool what happens is the big poo is fished out & the pool is closed for an hour while a little robot thingy runs around the bottom trying to filter out any more bits.

Friend has been known to fish a poo out with his hands, not tell the staff, & carry on swimming.

Was at Center Parks at half term - a small child - looked 2 but was apparently 3 - pooped in the pool - (and another one pooped in the kiddie slide area, someone stood in that one!!!!) .

Both were shut for nearly 2 hours, a man had to go into the pool with a net - swimming in the crappy water to pick up the "solids", sprayed something in the water and they put the filters on full throttle. Because a 3 year old "did not need a swim nappy"

My friend is a lifeguard. He says that a pool must be closed for 24 hours after a poo incident to allow a full cycle of fresh water through the filters or something.

It happened at my local pool a few Sundays ago and it was indeed closed. Annoying, but not as bad as catching some horrible shit-related disease!

Completely understand they don't want poo in the pool. If there was a chance dtds would have an accident I would use nappies. Dtds start school in September so really don't want a nappy in sight!

I totally get that they don't want children pooling in the pool but having an age limit makes little sense. Having said that if there are all these children pooling in pools it does suggest that the parents have no idea!

exactly flower - I'm guessing every single one of those parents thought - "Oh, my little one would never pee/poop in the pool, they are fully potty trained, have been for months, so it doesn't apply to us"

I work at a health club
After a poo incident , the poo is scooped out , the pool back washed ( some water let out , fresh water let in , extra chlorine added ) and pool closed for 4 hours
But we don't insist on swim nappies for 4 year olds , as luckily it doesn't happen often

DGS is 3.5 and has been toilet trained for over a year. He wears a swim nappy when I take him swimming. He just sees it as part of his swimwear. We use the pool at the gym. It's not worth taking the risk.

But swim nappies aren't like normal nappies. They're just padded pants.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with attempting to maximise pool hygiene tbh.
