AIBU?

to be a bit annoyed with sportsdirect

I couldn't find what i wanted on the high street so I resorted to online ordering and the only place I could find it was Sports direct. So, I placed an online order for something that cost about £30. Then I added in a couple of pairs of socks. There's a delivery charge of about £4.

First, the website automatically added a magazine for £1 to my order. However, i noticed before I sent the order and deleted the magazine.

Then at 7am this morning, I got an email from the company saying that they were cancelling my order for the £30 item that I really wanted. Then a few minutes ago, before I had even noticed the email, the rest of the order arrived. So, I've basically just paid £6 for a pair of socks that are worth £2, and I am back to square one with trying to buy the thing that i actually need.

Note to self.... NEVER order online from Sportsdirect ever again.

Phone them, they'll refund you. When I've had complaints they've been alright.

Adding the magazine is a naughty scam.

Yanbu, they have added the ugly big mug to mine once.

I've been caught once for the magazine!

But other than that, I'm not sure what they did wrong?

They didn't have one of your items, so they're hardly going to cancel your other items.

I'm sure you wouldn't have been happy if they'd sold out of the socks and so cancelled the item you really wanted too.

They are a bit of a PITA but they do have good prices & I have a sporty child so I end up shopping there then cursing myself on a regular basis!

I was a bit peeved to pay £4 delivery for collect in store. But they were giving out £5 vouchers because so many people had complained!

So they do listen to complaints it's just a shame you have to make them in the first place.

I've not bought anything from them since the Ched Evans debacle. Not a boycott, just went to go in one day to get something for DS's football kit, then found myself saying - nah, and walked out again. Went somewhere else.

I'd be annoyed too. My friend fell victim to the ugly big mug. I laughed her ni saw it :D

If they'd told me some time before they dispatched the order, I'd have had a chance to cancel. By leaving it for 2 days and only telling me a couple of hours before it arrived - at a time when most people are not checking their email - i had no chance at all.

Oops that should have said I laughed when I saw the big ugly mug. Grin Whilst appreciating it would be infuriating to receive one! How did the big ugly mug thing work anyway? Did they add it automatically the charge you for it?!

You ordered socks. They sent you socks. How were they meant to know you didn't really want them?

Report
WorraLiberty · 24/02/2015 09:50

But how were they to know that not receiving one item would mean you'd want to cancel the other?

I could understand if they were part of a set, but they weren't.

hang on a minute .....do they ever send a big ugly mug free with orders?

If not, I've obviously fallen for that one Shock.

A few years ago there was one that arrived with my order and I presumed it was a freebie as it was the only way they could get rid of the ugly feckers. It went straight to the charity shop.

Bikeskirun - I guess they couldn't know without asking. However, I think they could be more timely with telling me they'd cancelled the bulk of the order though. then I could have told them that i didn't want to spend £6 on a £2 pair of socks.

What did they do with Ched Evans? I missed that story.

I would have boycotted over Ched Evans but am now back to being a shopper there. Have to say have ordered twice online from them & it's been efficient. The delivery guy missed me first time as he came 24 hours earlier than originally stated. I phoned the number expecting a call centre and got straight through to the driver who came with 20 mins of the rescheduled time.

Got the most bargainous school shoes for DS there last week.

It's just a mug! It holds a lot of tea, I liked it for that reason! But then none of my mugs match anyway.
Didn't realise it wasn't free!

Report
WorraLiberty · 24/02/2015 09:57

I think the awful mug is free but only if you pay £1 for the magazine.

Brutalista · 24/02/2015 09:59

I love my big ugly mug. It's the only receptacle big enough to contain the amount of tea needed to get me out of bed of a morning.

But I thought it was s freebie too! They must be verrrry stealthy about adding it in.

The thing that annoys me is that they insist on everything being signed for, I ordered a pair of shin pads costing about £3 and wasn't in, they couldn't be left behind the gate because they had to be signed for and I had to stay in the next day.

I agree the cancelling something part is annoying but not their fault. I got stroppy with Tesco once because I ordered two identical single duvet cover sets for twin beds and they cancelled one and still sent the other, which I obviously didn't want on it's own. But their computer couldn't reasonably be expected to have worked the logic of that out, in most instances you would still want the remainder of your order.

I didn't buy a magazine to my knowledge either but I do remember the order arriving with a big bulky book/catalogue type thing as well as the big ugly mug as it weighed a bloody tonne!

Report
WorraLiberty · 24/02/2015 10:09

That would have cost you £1 for the pleasure Norbert

The mag gets added to every order and you have to untick the box if you don't want it.

I hate the mug. It's big enough to wash my feet in.

The mugs are free. I've got three of the ugly fuckers.

Is click and collect free now? That would suit me as there's a store 4 Miles away but I physically cannot cope with the shop! Everything is rammed in and you can barely walk!

Can I ask the OP and unrelated question? I current have an order with SD that is due to be delivered today.

I have a hunch that the ski jacket I ordered is out of stock. At what point did you find out that you wouldn't be getting your item?

I got an email saying that the order had processed - but I'm still sceptical as to if I ever will received this jacket.

Report
var123 · 24/02/2015 10:43

MaudeLebowski two and a half hours before the order arrived. It was ski pants that they cancelled on me.

I ordered a few things from Trekwear too. Good prices, a good range and their ordering system knows what's in stock.
