AIBU?

To give chocolate received as gifts away?

So fed up with receiving chocolate as Xmas/birthday presents, despite dropping massive hints after Xmas, I have received yet more for my birthday.
I know I sound ungrateful but just because I love chocolate, doesn't mean I want it every Xmas/birthday.

They're good to re-gift as long as you store them properly, so YANBU.

Depends. What quality of chocolate are we talking?

Yanbu
I do think chocolate if given repeatedly is a thoughtless present.

What chocolate is it?

I re-gift lots of things. I consider it recycling.

I regift them all the time. I do think it's a pretty uninspired present. I don't eat a huge amount of chocolate anyway and for the past couple of years have been openly on a very low sugar diet, and still get them! I regift them as a 'thank you for having me for dinner' thing rather than an occasion present.

Only if you are confident the person you give them to would want them

Can I send you my address?

Hotel Chocolat, some fancy M&S chocs, (2 lots) a 'champagne' bottle full of Celebrations Hmm

Considering donating it to the local Lions for an upcoming event they have...

Its funny but I felt childishly disappointed recently that no-one gave me any chocolates on my birthday!

Totally agree. Am sick of gifts of chocolate and body lotion. #ungrateful

I forgot the Guylian caramel chocs and a box of mixed Ferrero Rocher I also received.

I'll happily take the HC off your hands.

Yanbu.

I either donate them to the next charity raffle or take them when I pop to a friend for drinks, or even as a play date thank you if it's been as a favour. Anything to get rid of the bloody things!

I don't think YABU as the money you save buying chocolates for others can be used on yourself

Horsemad · 08/02/2015 23:18

Do you know - I'd rather people didn't give me a present if all they can think of is chocolate Angry
God, that sounds so bloody awful but it does annoy me. Sad

I'll take your thoughtless friends off your hands too then.

I don't get presents from anyone but family. No friends here. But the family are determined. Also my MiL has decided, after my politeness in saying thank you for what I thought would be a one-off gift, that my favourite ever chocolates are a brand I dislike, and now buys me enormous boxes of them (very kindly).

CuttedUpPear - they are inlaws: you are quite welcome to them! Grin

I get a LOT of chocolate give to me at Christmas from customers & much better, loads of wine.

I always give the chocolate away.

I take them into work for my colleagues to scoff or give them to friends.

I've been vegan for ages but still end up with a heap of Thorntons etc. from non-family gift givers.
