I never gave it a thought until last week.

I saw photos of my friend's new DP who is a bit unfortunate looking. Apparently he is a mix of English and Eastern European and this cocktail has not gone down well. His parents look very normal and in fact his mother is quite attractive. The blend just doesn't seem to have worked.

I am now feeling very squirrely about having children with my (English) DP what with me being EE myself.

Feel like I'm being very unreasonable because looks shouldn't matter blah blah but it's niggling at me.

Anyone else feeling like this or felt like this? Xmas Sad

YABU and I hope you don't pass your horrible views onto these potential children.

Christ on a bike! I pity your future children, for having such a nasty, opinionated and shallow mother.

Ha ha, brilliant! See how it goes op if you end up with an ugly child just have it adopted. That's what social services is there for after all.

Maybe he's just normal ugly - there are loads of ugly munters around - you should see me Grin

Your children will be beautiful and the good news with genetics is that even if they're bog ugly you will still as their mum think they're beautiful - honest.

YABU and quite unpleasant however:
My (gorgeous) Polish friend and her British husband have two extremely good looking boys.

Look, I acknowledge that this is an unpleasant thought to have, that's why I'm trying to talk about it on here.

I'm definitely not going to have children then tell them they're ugly! Having thoughts like this does not mean that I will skip off for a bit of EA.

Pregnant with dc1 - I feel very sorry for them having me as a mother, but hopefully they will look more like DH than me.

Yes I look like the back end of a bus, but looks aren't everything - I've done ok and I'm pretty sure my parents love me regardless.

Your thread title is 'I know IABU but...' Most of our replies agree, YABU. No buts.

You get good looking people and not so good looking people from a variety of genetic mixes. There's no recipe for success and thinking in that way is, frankly, a bit dodgy (see: eugenics)

But that aside, here's the thing...when it's your own kids, you think they are gorgeous.

Hopefully your friend's DP is a lovely person which, tbh, counts for a whole lot more than initial appearances.
