I eat my tea at about 8:30-9:30. Supper is after 10:30 if it happens.

It's because it depends who cooks. If he cooks it's later as he doesn't get back til then. I don't want to stop my husband cooking but also sometimes I think I might as well take over his days rather than starve waiting.

Have my dinner between 7-8pm.

Supper is a regional variation of dinner right? Or are you talking about another meal / snack after dinner? Shock

Ok maybe I am being unreasonable. Whoknows kudos to you for being able to tide yourself through with a biscuit. I would have to have a steak sandwich at 4pm to make it until 9.30.

Sorry I am talking about dinner. The third of the three meals! (South east)

Hang on, are people having an extra, fourth meal called 'tea' at 5pm?

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong!

I'm assuming that you're posher than me OP. What you call supper, is what other people call dinner or tea. That's a main meal. For me, supper is a late night snack.

What is supper? Supper to me would be a snack before bedtime.

Report
daisychainmail · 03/12/2014 09:08

Ah ok. Here breakfast, lunch then dinner or supper (used interchageably). I do call it dinner too, mostly in fact. Ignore the supper red herring (mm herrings, I'm already hungry).

The crux of it is should I wait til 8 to eat with my DH cooking or take over his cooking days so I can make mine earlier (when I'm hungry)?

Supper is a snack and a cuppa just before bedtime.

he has supper (a bowl of cereal) before bed

We have our dinner anytime between 5 and 8 to fit round the DCs activities and DH's erratic work schedule (arrives home between 6 and 8) at the moment (south east too).

Pre-DCs I preferred to eat around 8, DH earlier (6.30ish) but that's because he has diabetes and needs 4 hours or so after his last meal to stabilise his blood sugar levels before bedtime, so we used to have it around 7ish.

If I was you I would take over all the cooking rather than wait TBH. However I have ended up doing this over the last few years and DH's cooking skills have really deteriorated, he's a lot less confident now, so he does the weekend cooking as a compromise.

Wow! I never knew about this supper/dinner distinction. I mean dinner. i.e. Lasagne.

We eat our main meal about 7:30-8pm during the week, about 5-6pm at weekends when we eat with ds, when he is older and can stay up a bit later I plan for us all to eat at about 6:30.

Much too late. Usually around 9 - 9.30. Am trying to address this!

I agree with frau!

To me supper is a an Ovaltine or Horlicks and a biscuit before bed which I haven't had since I was 10 stoping at my nan's house.
Dinner is where I go out for an evening meal in a restaurant.

Dinner around 8pm. That's for everyone including children

Report
GotToBeInItToWinIt · 03/12/2014 09:13

We have dinner at about 8pm. That's the earliest we can manage by the time DH is home from work, DD 12 months is in bed, dog is walked and someone has had time to cook!

Report
daisychainmail · 03/12/2014 09:13

Ok, I rephrase to 'If you hadn't eaten since lunch and your DH were going to cook a lasagne that evening, what time would you want him to cook it (in an ideal world)'?!
