The FB Turkey Ultrasound....

BlueGreenHazelGreen · 16/11/2014 22:25

I've started to see FB threads appearing with pictures of what looks at first glance to be an ultrasound and is in fact a turkey. Generally posted below a message about it being due in 6 weeks.

I probably am being unreasonable (I'm sure you'll let me know!) but I find these pretty distasteful and actually a bit... upsetting.

Is it just me - does everyone else find these uproariously funny?

Well not funny but not upsetting either. Have you experienced problems in pregnancy OP?

I don't really get them...

I don't find them upsetting, but I don't see why they're funny. I just think "why would anyone do that?" when I see them.

I thought it was funny Blush

They make me laugh.

I'm not ashamed about laughing at something that is clearly a joke.

Whats the problem?

Perceptive of you Claw.

Yes we suffered years of fertility problems, before we had our children. Perhaps it is linked to that there seems something so flippant about these posts and uncaring in the way they are attempting to fool their friends.

Usual nothing at all to be ashamed of, everyone's sense of humour is different.

I just wondered how they were being received by other people.

It's not funny but definitely not offensive either.

I don't think anyone is fooled by them.

And FB is mostly flippant surely?

Blue Flowers That'll be it then...hide them and answer the question when FB asks you why you don't want to see the post....and they will filter things like that out for you.

I did a double take at my friends posts then laughed. More at my self fir thinking 'bloody hell! So and so is pregnant !"

I had ten years of infertility due to knackard tubes. Tried IVF and now have a beautiful dd.

Try not to be a debby downer op

Thanks Claw I'm not normally a sensitive soul, I soldiered through 6 years of other people's baby showers, Christenings, and children's birthday parties with a smile on my face while we were trying.

It looks like MN jury have decreed that I have a bit of a sense of humour short cut on this one so I'll rise above it.

At least you have dc now op. Some people try for a life time and never succeed. Why are you still upset about it??

Yanu. I thought them distasteful and unnecessary. I've never had fertility problems but know people who have and for that reason have never put a fb announcement/scan photo up.

Stale you misunderstand - I'm not still upset about it. We count our blessings and are very aware of how fortunate we are.

I wasn't crying in the corner then and I'm not now. I was pretty surprised by how much I disliked these posts hence the thread.

Jimmy I quite happy to see announcements and scan pics and was then. We kept our issues private because I didn't want to take anything away from my sisters or friends happiness.

I haven't seen it, but it sounds like a reference to Christmas being in six weeks? Or have I misunderstood?

Your friends have a very odd, but harmless, sense of humor.

I wouldn't look too deep into something so bizarre and silly.

Oh FGS. I am pregnant and was going to announce it on FB by posting the 20 week scan picture. Is that now not a good idea?

I thought it wasn't funny but I'm not offended by it. I announced first pregnancy on fb with a scan pic - but decided not to this time - just a personal choice.

Hairylegs47 · 17/11/2014 02:43

I don't like them either. A good friend of mine has just had a still birth, so I put it down to that.

If I announce my pregnancy with a scan pic will people think it is a turkey?
