And i liked it! I feel dirty Grin

It doesn't taste like anything ive tasted before.......

A friend recommended it as a non-bloating, low car (no carb) filler.

So i bought a packet pre-cooked and had it with salad, added some stir-fried mushrooms and pepper and it was yummy, after the first three spoonfulls where my face looked like Hmm what the fuck is that! its nice.

So what do you do with yours? keeenwaaaaa

I love it! I make quinoa veg chili and (it sounds horrid but not) a lovely quinoa, kale, pine nut and Parmesan dish and add grilled halloumi. The best thing about it is it keeps me feeling full all afternoon and I swear it helps you avoid the afternoon dip in energy..

As you can tell I'm a big fan!

I love quinoa! I use instead of rice for a lot of things. It's good in soups, as a side, in salad...

Did you know it's a seed, not a grain? And that it's complete protein?

Mmmm, keeeeenwaaaah.

i have likened it to bird seed yes :) I think thats why my friend had it though as she is wheat intolerant.

I had it with mackeral and a salad, i looked at my plate forlonly as i thought it wasn't going to fill me but i am full up like a big fat pig just now Grin

Can't see it in soup though

Fish cakes
use instead of couscous and add chopped sweet pepper, chopped cooked chicken/beef/ham or flaked fish, some spinach and chopped tomatoes and some spices.

I am 44 and I only found out this year it's not pronounced QUIN-OH-AH.

Maybe by the time I'm 50 I will have eaten some.

you say it Keen-Wa

I love it, I like to cook it with veggie stock, add asparugus and sweetcorn to it and then mix it with a mixture of pumpkin, seasame, sunflower seeds and cashew nuts that have been lightly fried in soy sauce. Absolutely delicious and you can make loads of it and have it cold for lunches.

How can it be low carb? I thought it was entirely carb? Or maybe I'm thinking of something else Grin

Yum, love it. A good salad is quinoa mixed with mackerel, roast butternut squash, cherry tomatoes green beans and a horseradish dressing made with some creme fraiche. Delicious Smile

I love it. I tend to eat it instead of rice so with a curry or with chicken breast and salad, that sort of thing.

It is high carb but low GI apparently so it's better for you than other types of carb. You don't end up with blood sugar highs and lows. Also packed with protein and fibre to keep you feeling full.

I should try it really Grin

It's high carb and lower protein. I avoid it as I low carb, it leaves me feeling unwell and starving in no time. But for carb eaters it's supposed to be healthy.

I think the point is that it's an alternative to rice/pasta/bread/potatoes etc which while mostly carbs has a lot more protein than they do, hence lower GI.

Quinoa is lovely.

Its a superfood. You get more protein per lb in quinoa than you do per lb in steak.

Although of course its very easy to eat many pounds of steak. Wink

Although, I thought it was quite carby?

DurhamDurham · 13/03/2014 19:29

I don't think I could have it whilst I'm low carbing but would be interested in giving it a go once I'm on to the maintenance stage of my weight loss Smile

Love quinoa!

Some people complain about its bitter, soapy taste, but it's easily sorted.

Rinse three or four times in boiling water...you'll see the rinse water is greenish. Them's the saponins that give the bitterness.

Then you just cook it as rice.

MaidOfStars · 13/03/2014 19:42

It might be a complete/high protein food but the digestibility is not as high as things like eggs and steak, so while it looks good on paper, you can't actually make use of all the protein it contains.

Why did i think it was no carb?? my friend is wheat intolerant and said thats why she had it, recommended by her nutritionist. Wondering if i have just scuppered my diet!
