The school have set a book week competition. I am usually highly disorganised and busy with work and as a result poor dd almost always misses out on taking part, this time she has made me promise to help her...

the spec is "to take a photo of you or your child reading a book in a an unusual or unique place!"

I am drawing a blank!!! Annoyingly we went to the zoo last week which would have been good

Well where do you live? I remember one child...on here I think...they sat on the roof of their house and read!

You could ask if you could go into some out of the way place such as a bell tower in your church?

Up a tree?
Sliding down a slide?
Surrounded by computer screens?

How about a library?

You can't get more unusual or unique than that...well not since the local councils closed most of them down Hmm Grin

How about getting a 'bath book' or one with hardback laminated pages and a cheap disposable underwater camera and take photo of your DD 'reading' it in a swimming pool?
Or get her to climb a tree and hang upside from a (low, safe) branch whilst reading a book about bats!

In the kitchen sink?

Though I suspect that's not actually that original!

Shopping trolley
Rubbish bin
Swinging in the park upside down on a bar
Sat on a football crossbar
Dog kennel
Underneath a dinosaur in a museum
Lying in front of your car (safely parked)
A beach with the tide coming in

If you do the swimming pool one, check first as some pools don't allow photos and some require you to ask permission. It would be very annoying to get all set up and then not allowed to take the photo!

Do you have any interesting sculptures in your town. There is one of some cartoon characters in our town so sitting with the characters reading one of their stories would be quite fun.

In the supermarket milk aisle

On a trampoline/climbing frame etc

4yr old DD sits sideways on the loo 'reading' the readers digest.

On a more helpful note perhaps on a roundabout in a playground? Bouncy castle complete with jumping children?

On top of a local hill
On a (road) roundabout (with suitable supervision, of course!)

I took a photo of my DS reading a book on the shed roof.

Do you have a trampoline? How about getting a photo mid bounce?
On the loo?

In the boot of the car, surrounded by shopping

Sat in the laundry basket with clothes piled around

Whatever you end up doing, try and match the title of the book to the scenario, just to make it funnier Grin

Ooh, on the toilet in a bathroom showroom! Or the bath.

Or in a tent in a camping shop.

Do you know anyone with a stairlift?

One of our local primaries did this last year or the year before. I wonder if it is the same one Grin

A friend's DS was pictured reading on top of Cat Bells. (They didn't go up there specially though, they were on holiday and took the book with him ready for the photo opp)

Report
buddyfingy · 12/02/2014 13:13

Maybe take the photo in a place that would be relevant to the book, ie The Water Babies in the local pool (love the idea that a pp said upthread!) or I Capture the Castle in the kitchen sink as that is where the first chapter is set.

If you can't do the swimming pool maybe in the shower?
