My not very encouraging and lethargic attitude has, over the past 15 years, seen her through years of school phobia and refusal, to the point that now she goes. I have had numerous broken bones, smashed up doors and hundreds of pounds of damage to cars in my not very encouraging attitude to get her to go to school. My lethargy has supported her to the point where she is a normal, functioning human being with a future, rather than a reclusive, phobic shell.
She does no homework and will not do any revision not because I am unsupportive nor apathetic, but because she cannot cope with it. Me being enthusiastic about it is likely to end in tears. I know. I've been doing it for the last 15 years.
Wine is never unreasonable.
And had I put all that into my OP and not 'drip-fed' it I would have had no replies at all as I would already have discussed and debated the point all on my own.
