To warn you all what you say and is overheard by little ears gets repeated round the classroom

And eventually makes its way back to the parent you were bitching about.

We moved areas and joined a new school last school year and, as one of the dc had a birthday soon after we threw a party and invited both classes to it as a chance to meet the parents. So far so good. Until you fast forward to now, my dc have both had birthdays and parties and never been invited to any and I've never spoken to any parent unless I've approached them and then they've made it clear they would rather not talk to me. I ignored it carried on with my life and was thankful I work and rarely, if ever, do the school run.

Anyway one of my cherubs came home from school just now and said that one of the children in their class has been told not to play with them because 'you look funny mum' and 'their mummy won't let them play with me but we do at lunch and keep it as our secret'

Just thought I'd warn you all everything is heard by the children and does get fed back.

That is all.

Hang on: the children told your DC they weren't playing with them because you look funny?

Good grief! Where the hell have you moved?! Shock

Sad What do you look like? (As if that should matter!)

They weren't allowed to play with my dc, as in their parents had told the, not to, because of MY appearance.

I look quite conservative with a few nods to my liking of metal music. I'm not totally out there because I work in a professional office but I'm by no means dressed head to toe in boden like most of the parents.

I'll just carry on as we are. The kids like my dc just the parents have massive issues for some unknown reason!

So what you are saying is that your DC have never been invited back to any parties after they had theirs a while back on the basis that you look funny? That really doesn't sound right. Why would they say that? Do you look different in any way?

I was expecting you to be a teacher with an funny anecdote and someone's mummy!

That's just cruel and makes no sense whatsoever! Sad

They sound lovely people!! Hmm

I have no desire to know them and it certainly explains why no one talks to me. I can take it I just don't like my children being exposed to that kind of attitude about something that's not in their control

Jesus.... Where so you live?

I'm pierced, tattooed and wear baggy jeans. We live in the most backward rural Irish village imaginable and I've never had a problem.... I'm on the playschool committee and pta ffs!

Oh that's awful! They're so weird for judging you over what clothes you wear Confused

At least you're smart enough to know you're not missing out on anything!

That's the thing, I don't look that different. I am being cautious about what was said as its been diluted by 7 and 8 year olds Grin but I have no reason not to think that was the essence of what was said.

Oh well. At least they attend clubs and have made friends from there that they see regularly. Just a shame they can't have the same from school.

DSM now I'm not daft enough to think that ALL the parents think that just clearly there are some!

So when you say 'nods to my liking of metal music' in terms of your appearance - what exactly do you mean? I am just trying to imagine how much you stand out compared with the Boden wearers.

I would not take anything for gospel from the mouths of 7/8 year olds.
Maybe they have the complete wrong end of the stick :)

All the parents wear Boden and think you look funny?
Surely is just the small, bitchy minority.

People with little minds. And telling your child not to play with someone cause they look funny is just plain wrong. Just sad there are such pathetic people out there. Sad

Blimey OP, I'm quite worried about you. You seem to have moved to a real life Royston Vasey with a local school, for local people...

So what if she stands out? Just because one persons performance is boden and another's is full goth regalia doesn't mean they wouldn't have lots else in common. One of the mothers I'm closest to is the polar opposite dress wise to me, luckily she's intelligent enough to realise facial piercings don't make me a psychopath who shouldn't be left in charge of small children!
