AIBU?

to not allow my daughter to have bratz and monster high dolls

my daughter is 8 this christmas and keeps asking for a monster high doll.
last year she wanted a bratz doll but we got her other stuff that she wanted as i just hate these dolls.
I just feel they are completely innaproprialy skinny and have silly lollipop heads. The brats look like baby prostitutes and the monster high ones are also really tarty.
she has some disney princess dolls that she plays with loads- a belle and rapunzle but although these are slim they are at least not dressed tarty and are in long dresses.
maybe im being neurotic but i just feel these dolls are horrid??
anyone else feel the same??

Yabu. You don't have to play with them. She likes them. Does it really matter ?

I agree with you for what its worth, but then it's easier for me as I have boys. In your position I would really try and put her off and distract her with something else. Problem is that at 8 (I have an 8y old boy) they are getting a bit old to be completely manipulated by us into having what we want them to have : ). I guess if she really can't be dissuaded you may have to try and find the least offensive one ..

YANBU - I don't mind barbie etc but I draw the line at Bratz - they look like hookers FFS (I haven't seen the Monster High ones).

They are hideous, I agree. Dd has a bratz she bought in a charity shop, which looks like a hooker, a 'lil bratz' horse rider, which looks pouty but not indecent and a 'Sleepover' bratz she received for a present. This one came with some rather sweet and 'little girl' accessories, I have to admit. This year she'd like a Monster High, which I'm not overjoyed about. Dd knows I'm not keen and now agrees that Bratz are ugly, 'But with lovely clothes, Mummy.' Hmm To be honest, the phase will pass and I wouldn't fret about it too much but, yes, they are tarty and hideous.

disney princess dolls are just as problematic. I don't see how bratz/mh are any different.

Bratz I agree with you but I don't think the Monster High ones are tarty. My DD who is 6 is a little bit of a goth and prefers MH dolls than Barbies etc

Yabu, and stop stereotyping women for how they dress. They lo ok like tarts for wearing short clothes?

I really wish the Monster High Dolls were about when I was a kid, they look fantastic!

well last Xmas dd got a present from her uncle - crikey it looks like a coffin! I said in all ignorance
when the xmas paper was off the coffin shaped box was in fact just that - with monster high dolls and various sleepover stuff
they are called things like ghoulia yelps and are truly hideous!

They are vile! I really hope they're long gone by the time 6mo dd hits that age.

If you find yourself forced into buying one, Bratz True Hope doll is possibly marginally better than others? Made to raise cancer awareness, some proceeds going to charity etc. not sure it's in the uk yet though.

YABU

And if you carry on making such an issue of dolls wearing make up and certain clothes, your DD will probably resent you for it.

They're just dolls - she'll grow out of wanting them unless you make a big issue of them.

YANBU!

I bloody hate theses dolls my 2DD's (7 and 6) used to ask for them all the time and I would tell them every time, 'No, never they are disgusting.'

They really are the most vile toys I have ever seen generally bought by the tyopes of parents who think it's ok for their daughters to wear playboy clothing.

YANBU they are awful. I hate them. My 6yr old asked for one, I said no.

Unfortunately the ex didn't feel the same and bought them anyway, but then he bought her proper grown up makeup for her 6th birthday, and skinny jeans for her 4yr old sister.

For what it's worth, they break really easily.

Just a question why do you all hate them the haters I mean ? you dont have to buy ones with revealing clothes do your daughters play with baby dolls ?
