Ok so this might sound totally pathetic and more than a bit crazy but please bear with me. I have some pretty massive anxiety issues and these all come to a head when DD (4) is ill. So tonight I'm sat here by her bedside for the second night running, worrying to the point of making myself physically ill....all over a simple cold and because she was sick once this morning! Which when you take into account the fact she's fast asleep might seem a bit odd.

Thing is though, it's like I have to constantly check her temperature, that she's breathing, etc or I go into a full panic attack. I know how pathetic this must sound to any of you who have actually had to go through illnesses with your children, and I really do apologise.

So I wondered if anyone fancied distracting me, seeing as I must have read every post on here in the last 48 hours and the refresh button is starting to complain! Either that or give me a kick up the arse and slap me with a wet kipper!

Walks in with kipper. I know it's no help at the moment, but you really should try to get help for this, it's not good for you or your daughter. In the meantime-what do you do with a wombat? Play wom!

Thank you...it was that bad it made me grin. I know you're right, I should get help. I think I just forget how bad it gets in between bouts so out it off. Thanks for the gentle kick though!

Bad? BAD?!?!? That's been my best joke for about thirty years! If you're gonna insult me I'll take my joke elsewhere.
At least you know you're over reacting, that's a great place to start from. Smile

Could you leave the kipper though please? Might need to remind myself I'm being daft and it could be handy :)

Set an event on your phone calendar for every Tuesday saying 'kipper'. That may help. Sounds daft but I do stuff like that to remind or motivate myself.

I have in my hand a pack of cards (shuffle shuffle)

I fan them out (fans cards out)

No pick one, any one. Don't show me what it is.

Actually, a silent alarm set for every hour tonight with "kipper" on it really could work. If nothing else it'll give me something to do for a few minutes working out how to do that! :)

The human body is a wonderful thing. It has this great mechanism for dealing with viruses and stuff. Just think as your DD sleeps her body is working out how to beat this virus. It will happen whether you sit there or not. Her temperature is a natural response. You are doing a great job caring for her. She will like as not be ok. sleep while she is sleeping, read or watch a film. She will let you no one if she needs you. Now go and do something useful with that kipper.
Best wishes to you.

Can I join in? I've picked a card too.

I'm good at inane waffle if you need distracting.

Thank you Minimammoth, that was really very sweet. On some level I know that your completely right, I'm just yet to convince my anxiety-loving brain of this. :)

Inane waffle is more than welcome, as is any other kind of waffle frankly! Although if Tooms has somehow persuaded us all to pick the same card then something stronger than waffles may be needed!

I bet it's a 6 of hearts.

Help me with making a decision, is buying a laminator a shit idea for a Xmas gift for a 10 yr old girl? I think she will love it and not so D H thinks its a crap idea.

Toombs · 21/10/2012 20:34

Blimey ChristmasKate how did you know. It was the 6 of Hearts.

Report
Nixea · 21/10/2012 20:35

Nope, not that card. I was the slightly nerdy teenager with a stationary addiction and therefore would have loved a laminator! I still remember being overly excited when one of the teachers bought one in so we could laminate notices for some coursework!
