to talk about antidepressants?

Who's on them then? Have they been a help or do you regret taking them? After a bad bout of PND most health professionals kind of 'gave up' with me as I wasn't willing to try them (mostly due to my GP saying my symptoms could become worse before getting any better which, at my worst, I couldn't get my head around).

So...I'd just like honest answers. Did they help? Do you regret it? Would you like to come off them? Or not?

I have been on ADs for, approximately, 20 years. Also anti-anxieties.

They will pry them out of my cold dead hands before I go off them.

I wouldn't be here without them. Had bad PND 15 years ago and planned my suicide. Took prozac. Have taken antidepressants twice more.
I should be sponsored by the drug companies.

I never understand why people will happily accept medicine for a physical illness to feel better but not a mental illness.

Some health care professionals are dreadful are recognising and diagnosing depression. I think this is more of a problem than the common ass potion of doctors giving them out like sweets.

I've been on them since late November after nearly having a breakdown and although I hate being on them don't regret it. I do hope to attempt to come off them in the new year as its not a long term treatment to me, I am also having counselling to help me though.

I did my dissertation on the under diagnosing of depression in a certain category of patients. I feel very passionately about it personally and professionally.

I have been given a prescription for Seroxat. I have anxiety and am agoraphobic because of this. But, I am too scared to take them because they can make you even more anxious for a few weeks. I can't afford to feel more anxious. I can get my son to school and back and to very local shops (5 mins away or less usually) and can't be even more incapacitated by anxiety. There is no-one who can do the school run for me. Hubby works and is unable to take any time off.

Guess I will have to wait for the CBT to come through (telephone assessment on Monday!!). I will be watching this thread to see what other people's experiences are. I have read only negative things (side effects awful for weeks, withdrawal near on impossible when it's time to come off etc) and it would be good to hear the other side!

No just don't like being on meds dr knows this been pushing to come off them for months but I now know I have to wait until new year to try.

I see them as any other medication, a diabetic needs insulin an asthmatic needs ventaline and some people needs medication to stop a doner organ rejecting.

If some one needs medication to control there metal Heath then they do :)

I am on Trazadone and it is not addictive, so I am not addicted to it. I went off it with no trouble for about 3 years while TTC and having my son. As soon as he was born, I begged for all of my meds back as I wasn't a functioning human being for those 3ish years. Not completely.

I also take Xanax. That I am indeed addicted to, although I also stepped off it for the 3ish years to have my son. And went back on it as soon as I could.

Taking my meds for my stupidly warped brain is no different than taking my meds for my Diabetes. Shall I try to go off those as well? Or am I addicted to them?

Your argument is false and badly stated. Perhaps ask for clarification before you make erroneous assumptions about other people, hmm?

Dolally I am agoraphobic, although not housebound at this time, thanks to Xanax. Unfortunately, the NHS decided to remove Xanax as an available anti-anxiety med. I pay for a private script which costs me £5.50 a month (I'm in NI so scripts are normally free). I'm afraid I can't speak to the one you mention as I've never been on it. CBT did not work for me as it is my brain that is wrong, not my thought process. I hope it helps you.

I find it so confusing. Is it all a big conspiracy like NellyJob says? Or like McHappy says are they required to treat an imbalance? I drive myself a bit nutty with it as would love a pill to take away my problems, but can't help questioning it.
