AIBU?

AIBU to not understand the problem with people wanting sun

I have a few friends who get very irate that rain and cloud is bemoaned and that the majority of people in this country appreciate sun and warmth more.

Is there anyone else who gets annoyed that rain and cloud is moaned about on the tv, media, general chit chat.

I prefer the sun... It's not weather fascism as one friend put it.

Well it does seem a bit silly to moan about a bit of rain when you live in a country that has quite a wet climate!

Your friends sound a bit odd.

Are they farmers, or people who have never been abroad?

EclecticShock · 07/05/2012 19:58

They don't like sun or heat, so they are equally fascist! ;)

Your friends sound off but my mother in law is forever moaning about the weather and whether she'll be able to get out to do stuff or for a walk in case it rains. In this country you have carry on with plans and kagoule up - if you don't you'll never do anything. And Chessington has been fantastic for us on a wet wet day with short queues, lots more rides than usual and free return rainy day tickets on the way home Grin.

PILs (lovely if mad) don't understand our need to holiday somewhere hot. They just can't get their heads around it. I can't get my head around them not understanding Grin.

I agree with your friends! It's the weather in this country. Whingeing about it is utterly pointless and childish. Deal with it or emigrate somewhere with heat and sun and lots of dry deserty landscapes.

Sorry Grin DH is a weather whinger and I have HAD A BUCKET FULL OF HIS WHINGEING! He never remembers the good weather! He conveniently forgets that we had a really dry winter. Unless its wall to wall sunshine for months he thinks it's crap weather.

Also I quite like rain....

I hate very hot, sweaty weather. The sort where there is no 'air' :o
But I love warm, sunny days, t shirt weather where you can dry clothes on the line and sit out without feeling like you're going to die from heat exhaustion.
Cold, winter/autumn dry days with no wind are lovely.
Rain is miserable, rain and wind awful.
Hate snow :o

Sounds like its more common to hate people whinging about rain than I thought! I'd better put a sock in it :)

Some people like to feel actual warmth on their bodies now and again without having to get it from 3 layers of clothing, a cagoul and a thermos of tea! You kind of need sun for that!

We are going to Majorca this year after 8 years of Devon & Cornwall. I love both counties and I'm a do-er on holiday but I just want to feel some guaranteed warmth on my skin for a change rather than taking wet/cold weather stuff out with us all the time.

I can't wait!

I hate cold, wet weather. Our reservoirs are 98% full. The thermometer hasn't hit double figures since March. It's May FGS. We have autumn and winter to be cold and damp in - why on earth would anyone want this kind of weather all year round? I would like to be able to hang my washing outside and not have to put the central heating on to keep warm.

Eclectic It is your friends who are mad not you.

I truely love the feel of sun on me, makes me feel alive, I guess like a drug. I think its understandable for others to like rain... But one friend went so far as to say I've been brainwashed! And it's propaganda on the weather channels, always telling you that bad weather is rain and cloud and good weather is sun and warmth! I find that crazy.

Well...living in a part of the UK that is much colder and wetter than most of England, I am always really amazed by people in England moaning about the weather, as to me it seems like a really warm climate Envy. I've seen loads of threads this past couple of weeks complaining about a couple of weeks of rain and cold weather, but thats what most summers are like where I live. You just learn to live with it. We have had the most beautiful weather for the last 2 years now we have a bit of rain people cant stop moaning about it (Must be Daily Mail readers)

There is nothing wrong with loving the sun but at the same time there is no point being miserable and complaining about rain when we live in the UK its best to just get on with it. Never fails to amaze me the amount of people who feel they can't go out because its raining, I think there is a lot of truth in the saying "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing"

I was born here and I hate the cold and rain.

My ideal temperature is 90 degrees and up. Anything else is chilly, I like heat around me, no breezes. I was quite happy in Death Valley when it was 124 in the shade.

The last summer warm enough for paddling pool was 2009, the last 2 years summer school holidays have been wet. Yes, we've had a mild winter but it's hardly been glorious!! Infact, the last really hot summer I remember was 2003. The year DD was born. :o

Entropy, my friends dds middle name is rain.

I like the sun, especially when holidaying abroad.

I also like freezing cold wintery weather.

And storms.

If the British didn't have the weather, what on earth would they talk about?

I like the sun so long as I don't have to work in it.
I like the rain so long as I don't have to be outside in it too much.
Perfect weather for me is some clouds slight breeze, maybe about 20c Good for doing the washing, walking, having fun.

My mum's like this, doesn't get my moaning about the rain. But then, she's retired and is of the age where rain just doesn't affect her life in the way it does mine. If she wakes up to yet another rainy miserable day, she can just batten up the hatches and cosy up in front of a film, read a book, do a bit of baking or whatever. I'm a Sahm to two pre-schoolers - and life is just so much easier when it's dry. Mornings out to the park, feeding the ducks, pottering in the garden, out for a walk - just not enjoyable in the pissing rain. I can do a day or two indoors in bad weather, but any more than that leaves me stumped for ideas, and inevitably starts costing money.

I'm not asking for hot climates to bask in, but dry would be good.
