Staying with a family member for a week to get PHD work done. Drove down Monday, did 4 solid 15 hour days, DS now here too after lovely DH bought him down on Thurs. Due to drive back tomo. Aunt having an absolute ball playing with and looking after DS.

Was planning in finishing up a few bits today and then playing with DS an heading to park this afternoon but overnight slight disaster struck.

I have a mahoosive abbcess on my thigh, have already had 2 x course of flucloxacillin and 1 x course of plain penicillin - thought it had gone, last night it reappeared larger than ever. Been to on call doc who toted with admitting me to local hosp for IV antibios and surgical drainage but persuaded him to let me 'home' as driving back 200 miles tomo. I have a double dose of Co-Amoxiclav now.

I feel very sick, massive headache, and sore. So am in bed. But I miss DS and haven't really seen him bar bedtime and meals and an hour each morning for past few days.

AIBU to stay in bed? And any advice on getting rid of this stupid stupid vile sore infection??

Ohh I thought you were talking about another woman! I came on to say, don't stay in bed, get up and fight her!

You poor thing. That sounds so incredibly painful. How old is your son? Do you have a tv in your room? Could he come and sit on the bed with you and read or be read to or watch a film?

I think you should let the hospital take care of it for you or tell me where you are and i'll come around with a big needle and pop it . You will feel much better if they can get rid of it once and for all.

How do you get an abcess on your thigh? Sounds so painful I'd stay in bed

Sorry, but I think you are mad to drive so far if you are feeling so rotten (sorry that you are so ill btw)

Think it would be best to accept that you need more treatment and get it sorted sooner than later and go back to dr

Is this a pus porn by stealth thread? Grin
OP loads of fluids, painkillers and take the antibiotics but sadly you may have to be admitted as the problem keeps recurring Sad

DS is 15 months and a little live wire - which is fab but means he won't watch TV for longer that 3 mins - tho has just started letting me read to him for a few mins at a time. I have this silly notion that Nevada he's not seen a great deal of me he'll forget me or transfer all his Mum Bond to either my aunt or DH (who has had to head back home for work) - like I'm worried he'll forget me! The guilt is immense!

See what you mean re thread title - that's cheered me up :)

Access is partly due to diabetes - so am prone to them. Think it prob started as in ingrown hair after a bikini wax (NEVER AGAIN!!) but is stubborn.

Photos... Prob slightly too close to my outer bits to get away with them not being a weird kind of actual porn!

And my GOD what I'd give for it to burst :-( size of a golf ball and frigging agony :-(

Horrible if you are diabetic you really need to be admitted and get this sorted asap as it may well cause problems with your diabetic control.
((((hugs)))))

Blood sugars stable at mo and fever under 38 which was why I think they've let me come home... I want to be in my own bed with my lovely DH tho thinking driving tomo quite possibly not going to happen :(

The thought of the 'outcome' of it bursting is strangely alluring and also nauseating ....!

If you had gone for the hospital route, when would it have been done & by how much would it have delayed the journey home?

I once had one in my armpit.
Arm swelled, couldn´t move it & the veins were standing out!

But the instant relief when it was done!

Wish there was a safe sterile way to pop it ... Other than being in A and E. Tried mag sulphate paste last night to no avail. Sure if it popped it would feel sooooo much better. And wish they would have drained it but NOT admitted me, that would have been a happy medium...

are you allowed to pop it? I say this because if you are pop the bastard and then drive home. Then see the dr or hospital because you cannot keep having them

Couple of hours to drain and 2-3 days in on IV antibios. Doc seemed reasonably ok with my plan to take oral antibiotics for 48 hours and get home to see my own hospital team. I want to be hooooommmmmmeeee!

If you were serious about popping it, just run a needle in a candle flame or a bit of milton to sterilize it and away you go. I don't know how you've left it alone tbh, I'd have been at it ages ago.

popthatzit.com has plenty of tips

since DS was born this is my 8th course of antibiotics for 5 abbcesses in different areas. Says blood sugars stable so 'just something you have to live with' - I suggested long term low dose antibiotics but not a good idea apparently due to resistance. Think after this has cleared I'm going to ask for a dermatology referral or check to see (prove!) I'm colonising staph bacteria and need de-bacterialising!

Horrible seriously please do not pop it yourself. If you are colonising strep on your skin you will then have an open wound for them to infect. You could be put your health at serious risk.

In that case, definitely go to the hospital - you would be feeling much better now, if they'd dealt with it. Good idea to see if something can be done long term. Poor you - it sounds awful.

If you have a bath, put some diluted dettol in, to kill bacteria.
