AIBU?

to think it's not really suitable to be topless in school?

When I picked up dc4 from nursery this afternoon one of the dads also picking up was almost naked save for a pair of short shorts and flip flops. His hanging beer gut gave some extra finesse to his outfit.

I admit that I judged.

Now I accept it was meltingly hot this afternoon, but that really isn't comfort enough considering I had to squeeze past him after helping ds get his bag from his peg.

WIBU to have been Shock Hmm at this dad? am I being a prude?

YANBU. I thought it would have been a small child that was topless before I opened the thread. It never occured to me that an adult would think this is okay. Yuck.

YANBU, I would not have been impressed either, there's a time and a place for dressing like that, your garden or the beach is appropriate, the school run is not.

YANBU. Sounds delightful.
At our school we have a dress code for the students, even the very little ones, including things like no spaghetti straps and no short shorts. If it's good enough for the kids then it's good enough for the parents too!

I did try to see the teachers faces to catch their expressions but they seemed to be working hard to avoid looking at him. Oh well, it will probably be snowing by next week and it won't be an issue Grin

Thank goodness it wasn't a woman that was without clothes on her top half, as I thought Shock.

I think men should have tops on when in public. No one wants to see someone's sweaty arm pits.

If it's the same man who does this at DS's school be careful what you wish for.
When he turns up in the playground wearing a T Shirt it says "I'm not bald, it's a solar panel for a SEX machine'

Wow, over the last few days at ds's juniors school, I have seen endless topless dads and just as many boys take their tee shirts off as they go through the playground.

Lots of mums picking up in daisy dukes and bikini tops too.

I live in a fabby area Grin

Tbh though it doesn't really bother me, live and let live and all that.

Thought you might be referring to a child. I teach secondary and had to tell one of the year 11 boys to do his shirt up this afternoon. Clearly he has high opinions of himself and his scrawny 15 yr old chest...

People can wear what they want but some women really need to check the back view before they leave the house..

Not sure TBH. There is one dad at DDs school who I'd like to see like that. In fact, I'd probably pay a fiver to see it.
OP, look on the bright side, snow is forecast next week. No?

YANBU

Then again, look at the amount of women hanging their guts out of tiny little summer tops that look as though they haven't fitted them since the war.

It's not a good look on either sex and I do wonder if the hot sunshine robs them of any kind of fashion sense at times.

YANBU....topless men belong on the beach or in the pool. I would complain. Or turn up with my norks out.

Yes, it's that universal fact that the fathers who would really repay ogling a bit of scrutiny selfishly keep their assets under wraps.

In your situation then yes YANBU, however when I went to pick up my nephew from school one dad there had no top on and quite frankly he could walk around half naked infront of me all day if he liked... phew.

My own sweatiness is bad enough when dressed, I really don't want to mingle with another person's sweaty flesh, hot or not (both the temperature and the physique)... OP YANBU!

I can't decide whether the posters who are saying that YANBU because he was not attractive (and who would like the attractive dads to go topless) are being serious or tongue-in-cheek.

If it's acceptable for one it's acceptable for the other and vice-versa.

But IMO topless in the playground is unacceptable:

  1. If the pupils are expected to maintain a certain standard of dress, so should the on-site adults.
  2. in the crush of a small space, the only sweaty male I want to rub against is my dh.

I think it was tongue in cheek.
I don't understand the attitude of taking your shirt off just because it's a bit warm. If you are at the beach, fair enough. If you are in a city/public place or whatever, it's just not on. I think it's incredibly bad manners! And haven't seen it much in other, much warmer countries. No idea why people in (my case) Glasgow is too hot to wear a shirt then
