AIBU?

And petty?

Ami I being petty? Made a lovely soup tonight, and OH comes home and DOUSES his soup with salt, pepper and nigh on a block of cheese. Insists it tastes wonderful.

It makes me fume!

No matter what i cook, its never spicy enough, or salty enough or too fucking bland. Ok dinner wasnt exiting: cauli and cheese soup but I used V mature cheddar, good stock, cream, salt and pepper. But I found it quite salty, my DD tasted it and commented on the salt thing.

So, Am I a petty and shite cook or has he annihilated his mouth over the years with chilli abuse? Grin

And Im fucked off with seeing his "I cant even be bothered to hide my disgust face" whilst he tells me its really nice. I know he doesn't think its nice, He knows I know that he doesn't think it tastes nice.

Im going to feed him fishfingers from now on....

YANBU

But then, neither is he... if he LOVES it after he's destroyed all the subtle flavours, its still a win for you Smile

You're not being petty but YABU to expect him to have the same taste as you

I like a lot of salt on most things

Soup is not a dinner, that's a snack or lunch.

If someone gave me soup for dinner I'd be dissapointed.

you have different levels of salt tolerance.
DH and I are the same - he looks at me in horror while I load salt onto food he insists is already seasoned perfectly.
If he is rude and complains yanbu to be annoyed, because you are cooking perfectly good food, but if he just likes it with more stuff on it and is appreciative there's no point in taking it personally.

Sorry, for me the soup was the mistake (I really dont like soup). Adding anything to it to solidify the essential wetness of it seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Sorry, YABU. However I do understand that some weird people like soup I have no idea why.

Wot Fabby said. Soup ain't dinner.

I'd eat it and then order a takeaway.

Deflated, YABU, but I am exactly the same.

It makes me rage when DP takes sip of meal, stands up from table, returns with salt, pepper, ketchup, chilli sauce etc, douses for 5 minutes, then eats. UGHGGHGHGHGHHG.

Now that I think about it though I don't know why, should just let him get on with it I suppose.

FabbyChic, I made bread to go with it! We will have supper in an hour so....

I can understand different tastes but he shakes that bastard salt pot faster than the speed of light... for ages! Grin bleurgh!

I just feel offended that no matter what I cook, its never ever right, he always has to add something.

I love salt. Whenever we eat at a friend's I pour salt over my food and she moans if so much as a single grain of extra salt is added to anything .

I think it's bland without salt.

Soup is not dinner though in my book - unless you've already had a big dinner at lunch time.

Just to clarify, OH is a manual worker so is exhausted and starving when he comes home. So I always make something first, then when the kids are bunged in their pits we eat something more substantial!

I knew I was being petty but corr, its dont half grate on me Blush Grin

MIL puts unbelievable amounts of salt on her food and dh used to worry about it because obviously it's not meant to be too good for her blood pressure.
Anyway, a few years ago she had various health problems and a battery of tests. Turns out her blood pressure is fine, in fact a little on the low side, and she actually has trouble with low blood sodium levels and the doctors said she should eat as much salt as she wants.
If he is eating really crazy amounts of salt it might be an idea for him to have a health check. If he has high blood pressure he might be doing himself damage; if not perhaps there's an underlying reason why he's doing it.

My dp drowns everything in cheese if there's baked beans or other tomatoey sauces (spag bol etc) on his plate. He has so much cheese it's ridiculous!

I'd get the right hump if someone whacked salt on without actually tasting my carefully seasoned offering. But I have cheffy ideas above my slop-cook station.

Sounds like my DH who also often won't eat it on the premise 'it just doesn't look appetising'
One day I swear I will do the same to him (of all the 2 or so dinners he cooks each year) and see how it makes him feel after slaving away in a hot kitchen.

Sounds as though were married to the same bloke. Mine added so much chilli sauce to the cauliflower soup Id made that it looked like cream of tomato. Said it was delicious and had a second helping. He also adds salt to everything I cook without even tasting it first. We just don`t have the same tastebuds.

Elderberry, thanks. He has been feeling really tired recently. I had suggested just this evening to have his iron levels tested. Smile

Cheesy, salty soup sounds vile though I have to say.

Soup's a dinner if its a broth and there's pudding, my Granny used to say, otherwise its a snack, or a starter or a light lunch. :)

Sorry but I'm another one that overloads my food with salt as well, but I would be very annoyed with the faces he pulls at every meal time, I'd be tempted to pour the soup over him Grin

Who looks at a cauliflower and thinks 'soup'? The only decent thing to do with a cauliflower is to make cauliflower cheese with it and even then it should be cooked until the cheese is crispy.

Report
ElderberrySyrup · 27/09/2011 19:50

well I think OP's soup sounds lovely. And with fresh bread and lots of salt and pepper and cheese - yum. Smile
