AIBU?

To think that this is Not On?

SiL phoned DH at midnight last night in tears telling him he needed to take her to hospital. DH obviously jumped out of bed and drove round there, only to find that she was absolutely fine but had said she needed to go to hospital so that they could have a chat after she had had a row with her dad (who she still lives with). DH didn't too much sympathy for her! AIBU to be really cross that she woke us up and told such a whopping lie just to get attention? We were both really worried about what had happened to her; she gave no details on the phone.

Send her a copy of The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

booyhoo she didn't say what was wrong with her, just that she needed to get to hospital NOW, then hung up and wouldn't answer return calls. FIL works away sometimes and BIL doesn't drive so we thought we were the closest people she could contact in an emergency. I've just got out of hospital after a serious operation and still need quite a lot of help so we are both gobsmacked that she would do this right now.

Sounds like my sister. (Similar age) She once woke us up at 4am (whilst I was pregnant and had a 15mo baby) completely pissed, to tell us she'd fallen out of a taxi. She was about a hundred yards from my parents' house (both of whom are nurses and could have dealt with a slight graze her injuries) but she didn't want to wake them up. Hmm

I'm not sure the age thing is a defence, either, lots of 23 year olds manage to be self aware enough not to do things like this? What are you going to do?

what a truly selfish cow!! had she been drinking?

Did your DH stay and talk to her, or did he walk straight out?

If she got what she wanted out of it then there's no reason to believe she wouldn't do similar again.

She needs to have a serious word with herself.

I agree with the 'boy who cried wolf' idea.

Im only 26, and would not have DREAMED of doing this only 3 years ago. I dont think any of my friends would have done either. Age is no excuse, she sounds like a ridiculously thoughtless, selfish person.

He walked straight out and came back to bed. I don't know what we're going to do really. She's supposed to be looking after DS this afternoon but she isn't answering her phone now and if she's in such a strop there is no way that's going to happen. I also like the Boy Who Cried Wolf idea!

I have ONCE woke my dad up in the middle of the night to drive me to a hospital another 40minutes away. It was because my DP had being rushed into hospital and I had no chance of getting there.

I'm 19 and wouldn't dream of doing that if I didn't need to get there, and definitely wouldn't in 4 years time!

My DDs would never do a thing like that and they are 19. 21 and 24. The only time DD2 phoned us in the middle of the night was to ask if she could come home the next day. Her Grandfather had died and she wanted to be with us. In fact none of my young relations would phone us up at that time and tell a big lie like that.

I wouldn't want someone that immature and selfish looking after my child. In fact, no way would she be doing so.

And no way would any further late night calls from her number be answered, nor would any requests so go running to help her in any way be taken notice of.

Report
Floggingmolly · 19/09/2011 10:03

Please don't let her look after your DS, she simply isn't mature enough.

The scary thing is that she's in her last year of teacher training. DH agrees that if she isn't contactable by lunchtime she will not be looking after DS.

Can you make other arrangements?

I just wouldn´t bother with her if possible.

Stupid fucking bitch. She would not be looking after my DC, she can't even look after herself.
I would be inclined to not answer my phone if she contacted me again. Day or night until a proper apology was forthcoming.
Silly mare.
