AIBU?

... to not get an iPhone

DP thinks its absolutely essential that I get an iPhone, and would be upset if I didn't. I think I don't need it, and even if I did, there are plenty of other phones that are better and cheaper

AIBU?

YANBU. It's up to you to decide what phone suits you.

yanbu - bloody waste of money if you ask me.

Entirely up to you what phone you choose. I have an iphone and think it's fab but it depends what you do with it tbh. If you just to make calls (ie no need for ineractive maps, internet, any of the apps) then you can just as easily get a 99p jobbie from Carphone warehouse (which is what my skinflint teenage son did).

YANBU. I love my iPhone. I could not live without it, which is a massive PITA. I'm now forever tied to an expensive device that I don't really need but I feel like I do.

iPhones are addictive, I almost regret getting one tbh

All my friends who have them just end up playing with them ALL the time, in social situations etc, very annoying!

What do you want it for? If you just want a phone to call people and send texts then it's a complete and utter waste of money. If you want to be able to access the internet, update facebook, tweet and have access to apps to find the nearest coffee shop and translate foreign menus then it's still a waste of money because an Android phone will do the same for less money.

With a 3 month old ds if I didn't have mine I'd never be able to MN! Worth getting for the MN and White noise apps alone! Grin

Agree with nocake. Look at some reviews including "vs" reviews - google "compare iphone with xxx" after you've found some others that are a) within your price range and b) look to have the functions you want. I've recently been looking and the HTC Desire S/HD and the Samsung Galaxy S2 are both at the least comparable if not better than the iphone. And they will run flash. If that's important to you. Plus I believe Angry Birds is free from the android app store but you have to pay for it for iphone (happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though)! Grin

Also, my OH is an IT professional (or so he claims hahaha) and he wouldn't touch anything beginning with "i" other than an ipod...

And for interim giggles, see damnyouautocorrect.com

Got mine three weeks ago. Sort of like it, but as an actual telephone its crap and the battery life is shorter than a mayfly. I don't love it like I loved my BlackBerry.

I had an Iphone for about 2 hours before I rejected it. Bloody useless piece of crap, extremely complicated, took frigging ages to set up, I;m now back to my bog standard phone which suits me much better.

Also, as others have said, cannot stand it when people whip the bloody things out every 2 seconds to check the weather, news, facebook, messages, emails bla bla bla.

I sort of love mine, sort of hate it. It does encourage low-concentration as I'm constantly checking weather, news, facebook, emails exactly as Trifle says. Bit like Mumsnet then :O

It is good though in that it is a brilliant list-making tool, but I don't normally forget it so always have shopping list, to do list, etc, and can update whenever.

V useful in lots of ways, but not quite sure its £500 worth of useful.

Android is miles better anyway. Or of course a basic phone if the apps and internet browsing isn't your thing.

Yanbu, they're a pile of wank. Droids are far better. DH has always had iphones, he hates them with a passion but didn't know what else to get when he got his iphone4, for the last 3 years he's been jealous of my htcs (hero & desire) which are much better, more reliable, do more than the iphone does and are seemingly indestructable (unlike an iphone). Plus I pay £12 a month for a free phone & he pays £35 and had to pay £69 for the phone.

YANBU, I'm about to get a new phone and going for an Android or Blackberry (have yet to decide which). Friends who have iPhones say they're actually rubbish as phones, and you have to remember to charge them every single night because the battery life is so pathetic.

Kytti · 03/08/2011 15:23

YANBU - iphone will tie you to Apple, Androids are much, much better. Having said that, ask yourself what you want to use the 'phone for and start from there. Just because they're out there, doesn't mean you necessarily need to have one. What will you use it for? What would you like to use it for? And then find a 'phone to suit. Good luck! (I found a leading supermarket to be cheapest.)

I resisted for ages, just because I didnt want to follow the trend. I've had blackberry's and htc's but finally gave in and got an iPhone. It really pains me to say it but it's fab! So easy to use especially as if I don't know what im doing I can stop any random and ask for help-the best phone I've owned for sure
