AIBU?

Dress same colour as bridesmaid dresses!

I did put this in style but no responses yet and I am dress panicking!

I have just this morning found out that the dress I am going to wear to a wedding next week is the same (or very similar) colour as the bridesmaids dresses, we also have the same colour shoes!

I really don't have anything else to wear (nothing fits!) and love this one dress I have.

Is this really bad?

I'm clinging on to the fact that most of the time when you attend a wedding you have no idea what the bridesmaids are going to be in so can't definately avoid wearing the same colour. Also I am not close family so may very well not be in photos.

eek

Would it be terrible to still wear it (it is that or naked though!)

IMHO, not bad at all. Two guests turned up in the same colour of my BMs - really didn't bother me at all - if it was going to, I should have put 'no one wear turquoise' on the invitations.

No, just wear it. I don't really understand all the hysteria about what guests wear to weddings anyway. No one is looking at them - all eyes to the bride (and maybe the mother-of-the-bride and the bridesmaids if they're lucky!).

I'm not a great one for matchy-matchy weddings but I know how important this is to some brides. So I'd think, carefully, about just how similar you might look to the bridesmaids. Is the style of the dress similar to that you might wear as a bridesmaid? How exactly do the colours and, importantly, material of the dress match?

Only you know how important this issue might be to the bride so it mightn't matter at all. You probably wouldn't want to look like a spare bridesmaid though would you?

Mine doesn't look like a traditional bridesmaid dress but then I don't know if the bridesmaids are going to be traditional either. I have no idea of fabric and have been told the colour by the uncle of the bride so, not wanting to generalise, I have found men can often be wrong on that sort of thing and are a bit vague.

If you aren't part of the wedding party,it makes no difference. My daughter got married recently, and couldn't have cared less what guests wore. She would only have had issues with what I or the MOTG wore colourwise, cos would have looked awful in the photos (I nearly picked same colour as bridesmaids).

If you are an ordinary guest-it won't matter.

OK Susanne I'll take your word on that.

Also worried that I might feel a bit embarrassed if we look similar but I think maybe the colour is quite trendy right now so there may well be more in the same colour. I've seen that before . . . years ago I went to a wedding where nearly every female guest was in a shade of purple!

Accessorise it with a cardie or something, I'm sure you won't be mistaken for a bridesmaid, just don't take a bouquet with you..

But I always take bouquets with me everywhere! Sad Grin

Take a wrap.

In that case it may be diplomatic to wear your bouquet as a corsage on this occasion, or perhaps wear it as a fascinator Grin

Go and don't worry. The bride will only be in her own world anyway, and as you say its not always possible to know what they will wear to avoid clashing etc any way. Have a lovely day.x

Are you looking to fill the inevitable gap between the ceremony and the eats buzz?

What would you consider to be the most suitable wrap to take to a wedding - tex/mex or stuffed with hummus and salad?

Grin at bouquet.

It really shouldn't be a problem, better than the naked look which may get you arrested and would definitely draw attention away from the bride Wink

Out of curiosity what colour is it?

Any wraps I had would be stuffed with a hip flask! :)

I would wear it, at my wedding my OH's sister in law wore a beautiful cream trouser suit, with a fancy hat and his niece wore a white suit.. I wore ivory :)

Why don't you just change the colour of your accessories?

I'm not going to put the dress up in case someone then recognises me at the wedding! Cue pointing and laughing! (always paranoid about being identified)

I can't really afford to change anything. I only have one pair of shoes that go and that are comfy enough to wear all day and my accessories match them.

You must know that nothing's sacred or secret here and that everyone will know who you are once they clock the jar of salsa and bottle of tequila sticking out of your cunningly accessorised clutch bag.... hope you enjoy the outing Grin
