Biff, Chip, Kipper et al?

Just loading the dishwasher now and got a surge of hatred for them. Really. It's ridiculous. At what stage/level do they fuck off?

DD not had them this year - year 3. - so I'm assuming they last until the end of year 2. They were mind numbingly dull and there are loads of ' Biff, kipper and chip the magic key' ones... Zzzz

Haha. My DCs are now both in their 20s and I still remember Biff, Chip, Kipper and co. Believe me life moves on quickly and soon you will find a whole new set of people to hate :)

Really they bin them at year 3. Horrah 3 weeks left of them. Grin

Luckily my DS did read write in year R and 1 and choice of books in year 2. Some are ORT and some other schemes. Not so much Kipper and Biff etc though as think they dwindle out as they get past stage 6.

thesunshinesbrightly · 06/07/2011 16:38

Yep no more kipper here either DS in year 3.

Report
Mumbrane · 06/07/2011 16:40

My DS was bored of them by the time he was about 4 yrs old and his school don't use the ORT - result! However, DD is coming up to the age when she will start to learn to read and is going to a different school, so I may have to face up to more hated Chip and Biff some time soon.

You can get them binned in year one or year two if child is happy to get head down and whizz through them. Kids can then move on to more interesting books. We did 20 mins a day reading and that was enough.

We had them until the start of year 5 because DSS is dyslexic Hmm . Have now actually buggered off as we convinced the school he may be more inclined to read something thats not complete drivel!
Biff, Chip and Kipper should be used in a public warning ad about the dangers of electric train lines along with Roger Red Hat, Billy Blue Hat and Jennifer Yellow Hat which was the drivel I had to read as a child.

Year 3!!! You've got to be kidding me! DD is only in Reception. I counted up the number of books she has read this year in her reading record - 90 of them! At least 90% ORT with those bastard kids.

Don't panic. Friends DD1 had read them all by first term of year 2 and has had free choice since then. Some children will complete them - just those who don't usually have them binned by year 3. Smile

Try reading 180 in year 1. Wink

180 in year 1. Blimey.
Do you know what ORT stage Biff/Chip etc finish at, we're at level 9 now, I'm hoping it must stop in the teens somewhere.

We had Roger Red Hat, etc. I used to read them very quickly to dc, so that they wouldn't have to. I thought it might put them off reading for ever. Dc read 'real books'. Not now Bernard, Each Peach Pear Plum, etc.

Well, I loved Biff, Chip and Kipper.... but to this day (and we're going back over 10 years now1) DH still gets riled about them. Along the lines of 'who the hell ever called their kids Biff and Chip? What happended to Janet and John?'

Ermm...I quite liked them Blush and we liked looking out for the pair of glasses that were in almost every one

DD was loaned videos of them when she was about four. Sadly, the VCR couldn't play them more than once.

Yes, some VCRs can be very tempremental like that can't they? Mine had a similar problem with Rosie and fucking Jim

Can't remember when DS1 finished with them, but DS2 starts in Reception in September. I'm dreading it already. Biff, Chip and fecking Kipper. Piss. Off.
