In expecting people to show up for an interview!

Interviewing today for a job. Only one person bothered to turn up!! And they say there are no jobs! Job over 20k too!! AIBU to expect people to show up???

YANBU, a phone call or email to cancel would only taker a minute. I assume you have cleared your schedule to interview today?

YANBU but IME it usually happens. In my former life, when I was involved in recruitments, we would always invite 5 candidates, but expect 1 not to show.

I think I would look at where the post was being advertised as it's areasonable salary, (unless it's not particicularly competitive for the field). If it's the job centre then tbh I'm not surprised.

Well that means nothing because it's all relative. Is the market rate for the job £60k? Does your company have a bad reputation? Have you treated some of the candidates poorly wrt interview arrangements?

hmmmm, fgaaagh is right - it depends on the job.

If you were advertising for a dinner lady for £20k I would have expected it to be very popular - on the other hand - if the job was for a brain surgeon working 60 hours a week, probably not gonna get a lot of candidates.

Job is right salary. Middle of road really. No bad rep. One of the top in it's field. And they all confirmed they were coming!! I think it's because they are all lazy bastards.

And we can mumsnet in work so that is worth a 2k perk isn't it???

If they had confirmed they were coming then YANBU - really rude of them - I would phone them tomorrow at 9am - get the lazy buggers out of bed and 'get some feedback' from them i.e why the bloody hell couldn't you be bothered to turn up !

You could understand the odd one not turn u - emergency etc /.

Anyway the one that did turn up - did you offer them the job ?

Wow, wish that happened when I go for jobs. I always attend interviews if I get them, but rarely seem to get the job. Perhaps if I were the only candidate I'd stand a better chance!

I don't do any recruiting nowadays but dp regularly interviews people and even after years and years of doing so, he's still amazed at the number of people who don't bother to turn up (despite confirming that they will) or if they do, behave with quite amazing inappropriateness. Most recent was DP: "Tell me about your present job." Interviewee: "I've left that now. They were all cunts and fuckwits".

The worst I have experienced is "no I don't really have any experience of that" in a steady drone to every question!!!!!!!

DP said similar recently too btw, he was interviewing 8 people for a managment job and only 1 turned up, only 2 of the no shows contacted the firm to notify them they were going to be absent.

DP was livid as it's only been 3 months since he was on the unemployment line and having been out of work for 6 months couldn't believe how feckless these people can be.

Obviously that's out of order, but when the shoe's on the other foot, plenty of organisations think nothing of not even replying to an application.

SlackSally I completely agree with you. Some companies don't acknowledge potential candidates at all. As most companies are online a quick "Thanks - but No Thanks" email would let me know that someone has at least read my name.
