I see a lot of woman using mobile phones whist driving and very rarely see any men chatting on the phone using their mobile.

Why don't they get hands free for the car

do they not know how to shop in halfords or the like to purchase a handsfree set for their mobile and not break the law

AIBU to think that they put others in danger instead of spending a few bob on a handsfree set?

Oh if any men want to own up to doing this feel free - or mention any men you have seen - its juts i don't happen to to have seen any men doing this opposed to a couple woman a day chatting away.

one woman had fag in one hand and phone in the other - it was quite amazing if it hadn't been so stupid Shock

I've seen plenty of male drivers talking on mobile while driving. Possibly even more men than women, that I've noticed, but at least 50:50.

I don't know. I refuse to answer my phone when I'm driving. I won't use handsfree, phone calls interrupt my singing and if it's a work call, I can't take notes anyway so what's the point?

Worse than that is women (and it's always women) wearing cheap sunglasses which means they cannot see the different colours on traffic lights which means I'm risking my kids life crossing at a green light as they can't see the red one.

I've noticed as many men doing it as women, so I don't think its gender-specific. Given how easy it is to buy and set up a bluetooth speaker thingy, I don't think there's any excuse.

I often notice people doing it at roundabouts, where they can't indicate or stay in their lane because of it.

I've got a great kit which lets me call anyone with just one button then voice controls, so I can call home, DP, DS, work, etc as well as take incoming calls.

I see loads of people on mobiles, a good half of them are men.

I see very few women doing it but loads of men (usually in Transits as the other poster said).

giveitago you know they are always in the same order, right? So if the top one is lit, you stop. Although by the by I have never found a paid of sunglasses I couldn't see colours through.

I'd say round here it's 75% men doing it.

I've seen plenty of men doing this too - this week a tractor driver, with a piece of equipment behind, negotiating a roundabout Hmm!

Today has had thread titles saying:

Women have a worse sense of humour than men
Women train dogs less well than men
Women are much more likeley to break the the law by using handheld phone and driving

What's going on?

I see a lot more men talking on their phones than I do women, especially van drivers, but I do see a lot more woman texting while driving and although both are terrible and deserve the punishment when caught, I find texting behind the wheel worse. I have never done either when driving but I think texting would take up more of someones attention than talking on the phone making it more dangerous.

And I can honestly say that wearing sunglasses while driving has never impaired my ability to see when the light turns to red, I doubt the fact that mine are Ray Bans has anything to do with that.

I cant' say I have ever seen a woman driving whilst using a mobile, but obviously they DO, but see loads of men, often men driving big vans, and trying to manoeuvre round one of our many mini roundabouts! Scary!

I'm another one who sees mainly men on their mobiles whilst driving. I'm generally driving in town rather than country roads or motorways, so the main culprits I see are White Van Men, followed by young-students-in-clapped-out-hatchbacks followed by company-car-drivers-with-suit-jacket-on-a-hanger.

Perhaps it's dependant on where your driving as to what species of arse surrounds you?

My car is an automatic so I have no need for my left hand at all because I steer with one hand at all time therefore I need something to do with my left hand so holding a phone, or texting, or smoking, or picking my nose alleviates the boredom - that ok with you OP?

Silly generalisation deserves a silly response Hmm

GeekCool · 20/06/2011 15:31

Ah Velvet, I also have an automatic. We also have a free left foot. You could steer with that, have a glass of Wine in one hand and phone in the other. Sorted.
