I went to collect DD from nursery the other day, when I arrived there was another parent collecting her DS, and I overheard a conversation between her and one of the young nursery assistants.
The nursery assistant was giving the mum a rundown of her sons day, and commented that he hadn't eaten much lunch, the mum asked what had been served for lunch, the nursery worker said pasta bolognaise and the mum laughed in her face and said "you can't expect a kid to eat that - this is a nursery you should serve normal kid food".
The (very young and now rather anxious-looking) nursery worker asked the mum whether she had noted her son's food preferences on his paperwork form (there is a section for allergies/intolerances/religious needs/dislikes etc) and the mum said she didn't need to as her son ate 'all normal kid food'.
By this point DD had come out and we were ready to leave, the other mother was still going on that she was going to complain that the children were not being served suitable food, as 'you can't expect a child to eat that sort of thing', by this point she was talking to the nursery worker as if she was stupid, and another member of staff had joined the conversation.
I left with DD but can't help but wonder (and wish I'd asked the mum) - what does 'kid food' constitute? Does it come in a labelled bag, like dog food for instance? [evil laugh]
