AIBU to expect family presents for my kids' birthdays or Christmas. Sometimes get a shop voucher or cheque in the post but not always - DD 18th today no cards, telephone calls, 1 20 pound voucher and prior agreement that I give her 100 pounds. as they are in Euro Zone.

It still upsets me when it happens - what should I do - am I a fool to keep sending presents for the sake of their kids - really tempted to back off now DD is 18.

Send a present if you want to send one.
Don't expect one back though.
Teach your daughter the same.

YABU to "expect" presents for your children. It's lovely if they are given willingly, even if it's only a pair of socks but there is no reason why anyone should be expected to provide gifts.

Come to an agreement. We are in the Eurozone and have about 6 birthdays in August. It is plainly stupid to be sending cards and Amazon vouchers back and forth.

Who in your family do you think should send presents?

DP has about a million sisters, most of them have reproduced so far. He frequently forgets birthdays, especially of the sisters/nieces/nephews he hardly sees. He would probably be bankrupt if he tried to get them all gifts!

I have a very small family and we all do our best to give gifts for birthday or Christmas, but we still miss the odd occassion. It's not the end of the world.

YANBU. I'm pretty sure it's the lack of sentiment that is upsetting you rather than the lack of a gift. No cards for an 18th? I wouldn't send them anything ever again!

Cheers that is exactly it but seems like if you can't beat em join them - have resisted for years but it seems like now is the time to make a stand.
