AIBU?

To be reeling in shock at what I have just paid for tickets in the odeon?

Shock

£44 for a family ticket and 1 extra child.

I don't even want to see jack black voicing a fucking panda that much! Certainly not £44 worth of much...

Ok so it's 3d. Big whoop! The bastards charged us £7.85 each and then had the brass neck to demand an extra quid each for 3d glasses.

Our local independent cinema charged £30 for the same number of tickets last week. Also 3d. And they didn't charge for the glasses cos we gave them back.

Fucking robbing bastards!

Shock

Nice, I'm sure your kids will enjoy it and that's the main thing.
Do your homework before you go, we do. We know the costs then.

Go on Sat / Sun am at 11am to the kids showing. £2.50 per ticket but you get 1 free adult with every child. So £5 for a family of 4 (plus £3 online booking fee). A bargain! Films are about 6 months out of date but who cares? Not me and not my kids!

Same here YellowDino!!

Kid's club all the way for us and the kids know that I wont pay full price cinema tickets so they dont nag.

Saw Hop earlier in the week and Rango this morning. £5 for a family of 4. Bargain. But-Rango-was-crap-so-dont-bother!

Meant to add - I totally agree ORM that the prices are an abomination. An abomination I tell yah. And the kids are not that grateful when you do pay nearly £50 for a bloody film!!!

Recreate cinema night at home next time and-you-could-get-wine-DVD-and-takeaway-for-the-same-price!!

Oh I know! Disorganised and last minute- my fault but we missed the only showing at the other cinema and we had promised. But I was genuinely horrified at the price

Katvond - sorry to hVe offended you in some odd way [confused ]

We just got stung on this too. It was a last minute decision to go and we annoyingly already have 3d specs but had to buy another set. I fell asleep about 10 mins in. Kids did enjoy it though and probably last time i will take them for a while with no.3 about to make an appearance.

Agree with OP that it's a rip off. If you'd had hot dogs, ice cream and popcorn you could be looking at a cool hundred quid. Agree with Yellowdino to go at the cheap times.

Also take your own drinks and snacks in a massive mum's handbag. As long as you're subtle about it, no-one usually bothers to make an issue out of it.

I keep the 3D specs i the glove box so we have them next time. We only go to the odeon expensive cinema for a treat when ds gets sent money from his grammy and wants to spend it on 3D film.
Instead we tend to go to our local independant cinema. It doesn't have 3d but only chnarged £3 a head, has most of the films on at some point and it's £1 a bag of popcorn and 60p a drink/can of whatever you like. Bargain!

katvond · 05/06/2011 16:38

You've not offended me OP just be better organised. We can only afford to go as a treat as it's so fucking expensive, it's easier for DD to go with friends less expensive.
You know orange Wednesday's do they include kids in the deal?

Report
katvond · 05/06/2011 16:41

We got 3D specs free so we keep ours in the car just incase.
I don't think we've been this year thinking about it.

I never go to bog standard cinemas like Cineworld and Odeon etc. It's all crap anyway and they fleece you.

Me and DD go twice a year as a BIG TREAT to the Showcase - we go in the directors lounge bit, they have lazyboy recliner chairs and waiter service - I drink coktails and dd eat chocolate sundaes.

It costs a bit more - £12 a ticket - but is more of an event iyswim.

I can't be arsed to pay £7 for cineworld, it's a bit crap.

The last time I went to a full-price showing at the cinema was Jan 2000, I have no idea what it cost.
I take the kids to the £1 kids-club showing at either Cineworld or Vue, 3 to 6 months out of date and not 3d, but they have never asked to go and see a new release. I take a bag of popcorn in my handbag.
£44 for a family to see a film is just an insane amount of money.

I just got from watching Pirates of the Caribbean and saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2( both really good) during the half term and used good old tesco vouchers. I just had to pay a bit extra for 3d film and already had the glasses so good deal all round.

Chasing is cineworld in most towns, we are in Cornwall

Don't go to the Empire in Leicester Square then...

£16.95 each for 3D Pirates of the Caribbean.

And the glasses hurt.

DH has treated himself to a cineworld pass and it only costs £15 month. If he goes on orange wednesday he can take someone else for free.

I'm only posting to make you envious, orm.

Four of us have just been to the cinema. In a lovely cosy room with just 12 huge leather recliners, little tables for snacks, having a laugh at Wimpy Kid 2. And only £6 each.

I was £35 plus for me and 3 kids to go see rio at vie cinema Inverness, then they had cheek to ask me if I wanted to pay a further £3 for comfy seats. Yeah right, for £35 the seats should have been comfy.

£9 for 5 at local independent tots & toddlers screening. Dd1 is 11 & dd2 9!

Ormirian · 05/06/2011 17:20

Ok. I concede it was quite good.

Still extortionate.

3d makes me sick.

Haven't been to the cinema in about 6 years anyhow.

The DDs, now age 7 and 5, have only been once in their lives, last year, when my mother took them.

Funnily enough dh and I were going to see Pirates OTC 4 on Friday. £9.80 per head plus £1 for the glasses.

So we went out for dinner instead and spent roughly the same amount.

I downloaded it when I got in.
