That friggin Bruno Mars one...today I'm not doing anything...

"The Lazy Song"

Today I don't feel like doing anything Hmm
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

I'm gonna kick my feet up
Then stare at the fan
Turn the TV on, throw my hand down my pants (gross) Envy
Nobody's gonna tell me I can't

I'll be lounging on the couch,
Just chillin' in my snuggie SNUGGIE??[wtf]
Click to MTV, so they can teach me how to dougie
'Cause in my castle I'm the freaking man (as if being a man gives him some extra special right to be a lazy bastard)
Oh, oh

Tomorrow I'll wake up, do some P90X
Meet a really nice girl, have some really nice sex
And she's gonna scream out: 'This is Great' Shock
(Oh my god, this is great)
(What? Is he going to shag her right away?? Not even get to know her?) Hmm
Yeah

I might mess around, get my college degree
I bet my old man will be so proud of me
But sorry pops, you'll just have to wait (Well then you'll end up in Macdonalds my son) Grin
Oh, oh

Yes I said it
I said it
I said it 'cause I can

Today I don?t feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don?t feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

No, I ain't gonna comb my hair (scruffy and he thinks he'll get some girl in bed on the first meeting?? Hmm)
'Cause I ain't going anywhere
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, oh

I'll just strut in my birthday suit (BOAK)
And let everything hang loose (DOUBLE BOAK)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-eah

Oh
Today I don?t feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don?t feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

So AIBU? Or does this idiot need a good talking to?

i don't think bruno mars is the idiot in question

ummmmmmmmmmm there are far worse lyrics to songs out there you need to relax my dear.

It's a song. Bruno Mars is a wonderfully talented young man. The one I loathe on that album suggests he has a cock like a root vegt. It is something to do with all the bunnies wanting a piece of him and him only having one carrot.
Even DD picked up on that and she's 10.

I like that song, it plays on the radio when I am at work and we sing along in wishful thinking Grin

I find most songs sung by young women, on the other hand to be highly questionable as the lyrics seem to paint them as whores of victims of violence or havng low self esteem. That one about 'liking the way it burns' for instance (or is that actually about cystitis?)

Agree with Trinity, he's talking about one day, not his whole life. We all have lazy days now and again.

Tigerseye....he is illustrating a way of life which is not something most young men should aspire to. Young black men inparticular are the victims of a society too ready to label them as wasters. Songs like this do NOTHING to help matters.

I was being light hearted really....but there are deeper issues here.

I take issue with hearing my 9 year old singing about "really nice sex". We can't escape the damn song.

However, it's true to say there is alot worse out there.

That's right Foofffy....it's all too casual.

No I don't think he is. If he was he wouldn't be singing about have A lazy day. His whole life would be lazy and he wouldn't even question it.

The fact that today he feels like being lazy means the rest of the time he is not.

I don't think it's a particularly deep song with a deeper message and tbh most teens have this urge to be lazy, I certainly did, to want to kick back and say fuck college, what my parents want, getting a job....doesn't mean they do. Just means they (like many of us) want to from time to time.

I can think of plenty of songs with less-than-moral-messages in my large collection of opera and even earlier music. Doesn't mean youngsters have been growing up feckless and incapable of sorting their lives out for centuries. Or is it just today's youngsters who are supposed to have no ability to distinguish between a song and their own lives?

But hang on, what were people saying about us and our choice of listening? In the sixties? Seventies? Eighties? Of course, all songs carried highly moral and motivating messages in those days Hmm

Then perhaps your criticism is better directed at the young black men who sing about 'Hoes, pimping and drug dealing' there are plenty of those songs to choose from.

But instead you choose to criticise Bruno for singing about one lazy day that everyone has now and then Hmm

There are loads of iffy songs about if you want to find issue. I was in the car yesterday when 'Every Breath You Take' came on. it made me want to take out a restraining order against Sting.

A snuggie is a blanket that you can wear like a poncho in a sense. It's got holes for your head and arms, and the rest just flows. Blanket material. So it's pretty much like wearing a blanket.

Also, I see your point, but honestly I'd be more concerned about how everything nowadays is made sexual. Adverts (especially perfume adverts, what the hell are they smoking?), modern music bands/singers (Ahem: Rihanna prime example), music videos, movies (albeit movies have a wide range of genres so generally aren't as bad). I could go on.

Making one black man responsible for the image of his whole demographic.
suggesting that a musician should not be doing something because of his race.
complaining about the problems of todays youth as though such probalems have never existed before.

not enough

I don't think he means he has a lazy life otherwise why talk about having a lazy day? He does intend to get his college degree just not today. Foofffy I am with you on the 'really nice sex' my oldest is 6 so doesn't get it yet thankfully.
Saying that though my 3 yo ds changes the words of songs to what she thinks they should be, instead of Katy Perry singing "tight jeans, double d's" she sings hi stacey, woo stacey I much prefer that version

xpress2 got there earlier with "Wicked and Lazy". Was that one OK because they were white??? I mean, WTF is wrong with singing a song about having a lazy day? There are much worse. How about Rhianna having a word with herself about singing "Rude Boy"? Much worse IMO.

Isn't Bruno Mars asian, or am I thinking of the wrong man? Isn't he the one on Graham Norton 2 weeks ago?

I don't think he can be held responsible for the social morals of young black men.

I find that Katy Perry song about aliens quite sickening and sad. Being probed and such like. Urgh.

It's like feminism never happened, with Katy and Rihanna in the charts.
