..... donned the biohazard suit and hard hat then entered the DS's bedroom to clean it (and on a Friday night too!!).

TaDa!!!

Actually it wasn't sooooo bad as he'd smoothed the way by binning lots of crap, tidying up a bit, and trying to sort things out generally and all without so much as a teeny tiny grumble.

Mind you, as he's in his early 20s he should be doing it himself Grin

Why do young men (and women??) never "see" the things they should be tidying up??

I'm now preparing for a roasting for doing it for him but, although he makes "attempts" I still have to get in there and sort it properly!

I can only say I totally understand why there are so many threads and posts about 'useless DPs and DHs' etc....

god almighty.. he should be in his own bloody home, not having his mummy clean up after him..

True mutz, very true. Early 20's and still not doing it himself? You're ruining what might have been a perfectly good husband for someone one day!

Why on earth are you tidying up after a 20 odd year old???!!! Shock

Well I have 3 boys aged 19, 11 and 8 and all (including the 8yr old) can cook and clean. Obviously the eldest is better at it (especially the cooking) but all 3 of them know how to keep their rooms properly clean...eldest has his own flat anyway.

Aw to be fair, I knew I'd get a bit of a flaming but he does hoover (after a fashion!), cooks his own food etc. but he has such a lot of "stuff" it starts to get to me and I have to get in and properly go over it.

You know I was about to post the same as the rest ........but then I thought. Actually if they're not cleaning it - it probably stinks - and smells don't stay confined to one room. If it got so bad it was creeping out of the room (even if I only a smell) I'd probably do it as a total once off just to keep my house smelling nice and to retrieve all my mugs and plates.

YABU he should be doing it himself at his age.

And he can't properly go over it because?

Have you thought what might happen if he were to say...move away and start a family? What if his wife went for a spell in hospital? Would Mummy have to come running to properly help him then too?

By my early 20s I had three kids, a husband, mortgage and bills to pay!

Im properly shocked that you are cleaning up after him!!!

Baroqin Don't you think a 20+ adult should have more respect for the person who owns the house though? Would you allow a lodger to stink out the room and hoard mugs and plates or just family?

Having said that - for now I tolerate DS1's room. It's awful though if he leaves the door open and he's not sorted it for a day or two (and it's a tiny room so takes no time at all to be a mess) as you can see it as you go to the bathroom. It makes me shudder at times (and I'm no neat freak - but upstairs is kept tidy) and often hold my nose too. I have to make sure his bedroom door is shut if I have people round I don't know very well as it looks that bad at times.

He's been better recently though - at least his crap isn't all over the landing outside the bathroom as well.

I'd better not let my DCs see this OP - they might get the idea that it's normal for mums to clean bedrooms! I still help mine occasionally but they are only 13, 10 and 9!

Well, he can't afford his own home as he's on pretty low wage and I certainly don't run after him. Like I said he does his own cooking mostly and ironing if needed.
Pretty much all I do is ask him for washing which I shove in the machine then tumble drier.
It's just that every so often I just have to give his room a thorough going over or it bugs me.

However, I am suitably chastised Blush

My son is 22 and resides elsewhere as is at Uni, but I can remember when he lived at home, empty coke bottles under the bed, five empty glasses knocked over on the floor, wet towels on the floor and all his clothing.

When he was here at Christmas he still dumps all his clothes on the floor, kids eh!

you can kick a lodger out easier than you can kick family - less fall out from throwing a stinky filthy lodger out your house than a stinky filthy child. Grin

It is slightly irrelevant though as I'm not sure even DS1 would let his room get so bad that I felt the need to do it for him iykwim? And although I don't give pocket money for helping around the house. I do take it away for grumbling about doing it or not doing it properly Grin

I lived at home until I was 22 and my mum cleaned my room [spolit emoticon]
Mind you, my brother lived at home until he was 30 and my saint of a mother cleaned his room too. That really was too much!

Sassybeast - it's more my problem though because I just can't stand the dust on the piles of DVDs, fluff on the floor and clothes shoved randomly into storage.

I rarely have to remove piles of plates or glasses etc. - he does know how to stack a dishwasher!

I was joking about the biohazard suit - it wasn't festering or anything - he knows how to change sheets and duvet and he does that himself.

See, I knew it would raise the wrath of MN - I just felt better that I'd wiped surfaces with Flash, dusted thoroughly and gone round "the edges" with the hoover attachment.
