AIBU?

To think you must be really up yourself to send Christmas cards which are actually photos of yourselves?

Photos of your kids (cute or otherwise) I can just about stomach but close up photos of Parents plus DCs is just sick worthy. Looks at us, aren't we just gorgeous?

Or am I just a miserable old cow?

I think it's nice to see pics of people that you don't see that often.

Not that I do it Smile

I only get those cards from my American friends (especially those on the east coast).

All wearing matching chinos from Lands End too Grin

Is it ok to include a photo of dcs inside the card though? I was planning of doing this for people we don't see very often..

I'm not sure. I don't mind them but would never feature on a Christmas card myself because I'd be worried people would look and think "Poor old Allgood, the years have not been kind!"

Yes, Theant, I will permit you to do that

Oh dear - I've been guilty of that (only to people who we haven't seen for years - and because I had lost four stone so was showing off Xmas Blush). I do tend to send a photo of DC - I love receiving photos of friends' children - obviously not if I see them everyday Xmas Grin.

I send pics of children to a select few. But I'd never send one of myself, even assuming anyone would be interested

Rofl, Ragwort, I often think I would do that if I ever manage to get rid of my blubber winter padding!

It's probably okay if you're the queen I'd have thought...

She's always on the outside of the envelope too! Wink

My American friends do this and some Aussies I know. I suppose it makes sense when you live in such vast countries and so have lots of relatives and friends who you just see often and may well not get around to sending photos to much.

I've received a couple along this theme this year: www.shutterfly.com/cards-stationery/cards-stationery/christmas-letter-christmas-card-5x7-flat?sortType=1&fa=8&storeNode=93476

Agree that from friends or relatives you rarely see is acceptable, if possibly a little try-hard and twee. However, receiving them from people you see regularly is entirely cringeworthy, especially when you know they fight like hell and dress in Primark in real life, and the pictures on the card are all sweetness and light and matching American Apparel.

we send a picture in our 'posted cards', really it's aimed at the older generation, but we just blanket everyone we post a card to.
my auntie's etc love it - they keep all the christmas photos, so this year i sent one with all of us - they might want to see me and dh too!

(i feel i should explain i don't send cards to anyone i see in day-to-day life - either they get a present or a 'merry christmas' when i see them)

We sent a comedy card out of ourselves one year where we looked really stupid. I mean REALLY stupid.

Comedy gold, it was.

oh and that it was us on a rock in autumn looking 'wind blown and grubby' rather than gorgeous and ideal.

I've sent out a cards with a collage of photos of DS dressed as Father Christmas in the snow... I thought it was a lovely, personal idea!

Maybe it'll root out family and friends on MN if they think it's naff Grin

I think it's a really good idea, which I would do if I could afford it. I really like seeing the pics of friends and relatives kids that I rarely see.
Especially if they are dressed in Christmassy costumes! I don't think people should take it seriously, it's fun and friendly.
IMO
