SOME people can carry LOL off. But the vast majority cannot - fact.

The ones that really annoy me are not when it is just superfluous (and then I fed my cat lol), but when it is downright inappropriate (and then after granny's funeral we came out to find the car had been set on fire lol).

Gets on my nerves too.
Especially when the lol (shudder) is totally misplaced, like "DH was really annoying me lol, so I screamed at him and stormed out of the room lol"

The only time I can think that lol could work is if someone sends me a funny text (veh rare) or a funny email and I send back just lol to show appreciation if I don't have time to write a long answer. To be honest, it happens at most once a year...
