To want my housemate to shut the door when going the toilet?

New lodger moved in last week but I'm a bit disturbed by the fact that he keeps using the toilet with the door open. It's a small house so I can hear everything, including his lack of hand washing afterwards shock.

I find it really creepy, especially when I'm home alone with him. He's normal in all other respects. AIBU to find this odd?

ewwww minger. Tell him immediately. Vile!

flibbertigibbert Fri 19-Nov-10 21:46:59

Obviously that should be 'going to the toilet'

flibbertigibbert Fri 19-Nov-10 21:48:25

Thankfully he stays in his room most of the time so isn't contaminating the whole house with his unwashed hand germs.

How on earth do you bring something like that up?

beebuzzer Fri 19-Nov-10 21:57:03

Yes, I couldnt live with that. Not sure how you wouldbring it up though. Is he an older or youger guy?

Yuckety yuck. The dirty fecker.
When I was house sharing, my housemate came outta the bathroom one morning and we passed in the hall, we said the usual good morning, good night last night etc... all with his willy hanging out lookin at me blush

I was more embarrassed then he was.

SuePurblybiltByElves Fri 19-Nov-10 21:59:41

Grim. Tell him at once.

LadyViper Fri 19-Nov-10 22:00:40

tell him straight that you know he doesn't wash his hands and that its gross!

ew, time to introduce some house rules!

LittleNicci Fri 19-Nov-10 22:02:53

Can you put a "Now Wash Your Hands" sign above the toilet, like they used to have in schools?

flibbertigibbert Fri 19-Nov-10 22:03:51

beebuzzer - he's a few years older than DP and myself.

Maybe getting DP to mention it would be the way to go. It's making me feel very creeped out. How can he not be bothered by the thought of someone else seeing or hearing him? confused

cees Fri 19-Nov-10 22:06:03

Does he leave the door open for a poo too?

I'd get your hubby to have a word, it's really not on.

flibbertigibbert Fri 19-Nov-10 22:09:43

cees - so far only wees. Though he did let rip an extremely loud fart the other day (shudder)

beebuzzer Fri 19-Nov-10 22:11:00

yes I would get your DP to mention it. It does sound pretty creepy and especially when he has just moved in.

Maisiethemorningsidecat Fri 19-Nov-10 22:12:35

Are we talking door wide open or just a little bit ajar?

Personally I'd make a bit deal of shutting the door on him whilst he was in there, and telling him that I don't want to see that, thank you!

cees Fri 19-Nov-10 22:13:52

Oh he sounds like a gent, not. I second that shudder.

RevoltingPeasant Fri 19-Nov-10 22:17:38

Ew. I used to lodge in someone else's house and I would NEVER EVER have left the door open. In fact it used to really bug me that they didn't have a lock on their door.

Although, on the handwashing: I don't think you can bring it up. He is a grown man and his personal hygiene is his business. Also, are you sure you are right on that score? My landlady when I lodged thought for a while that I was using her washcloth in the bath because I used to hang it up when I was in there (she left it in the bath so had to put it somewhere). She eventually confronted me and I was quite insulted and said, er no, that would be disgusting...

peeringintothevoid Fri 19-Nov-10 22:18:07

YANBU! Yuck! I don't know how you handle that, but I reckon it'll be better coming from your DP than you.

flibbertigibbert Fri 19-Nov-10 22:19:32

Maisie - the door is ajar not all the way open.

RP - definitely no hand washing - the taps make a noise.

Maisiethemorningsidecat Fri 19-Nov-10 22:24:49

Definitely just pull the door closed when he's in there. He'll soon get the message grin

RiojaLover75 Fri 19-Nov-10 22:26:02

No, sorry that's unacceptable! He shouldn't leave the door open while in there.

flibbert so you have DC??

EricNorthmansMistress Fri 19-Nov-10 22:29:46

If he's not washing his hands then touching doorknobs/stuff in the kitchen then he could be spreading norovirus or any other shit around. Yuk.

LittleNicci Fri 19-Nov-10 22:33:52

He must wash his hands when he has a poo, surely? If not I'd be following him round with the Dettol spray, decontaminating everything he touches.

RiojaLover75 Fri 19-Nov-10 22:33:52

And if there are DC in the house it definitely needs addressing rather than a 'slam the door' and hope he gets the message job.....

flibbertigibbert Fri 19-Nov-10 22:37:39

No DC in the house. Still making me feel uncomfortable though.
