Pizza Express and dairy/egg allergy

DD is having her birthday soon and the only vaguely child friendly restaurant nearby to the theatre is Pizza Express. We have never ventured to one with her, as I can't think what she would eat.

Pasta is fine obv. if durum wheat only - and pizza fine if base milk free and they can guarantee no cross-contamination from cheese in oven/making up. But someone told me their food is all pre-made up in which case there is no flexibility...

Have emailed them but not heard back. Any experiences gratefully received.

the pizza is prepared to order pasta made up, i wouldnt be convinced that cross contamination couldnt occur

I took my dairy allergic DS to pizza express and they were perfectly happy to make him a pizza with no cheese on.

I took my wheat/gluten allergic DS to pizza hut with a free from base and they were really good about it. I think they didn't even charge for his one! They couldn't guarantee not cross contaminatig tho.

Hmmm - its tricky. In our local pizza place, Dh and I watched them make up the pizzas - hand into container of cheese, straight into the container of peppers etc. The nature of way it is made up in that kind of place meant there was defo bits of cheese in the other containers.

Trixy is your DS very allergic? Did you ask about cross-contamination/cheese in the bottom of the oven etc?

eddie that's good about Pizza hut.

she might not have it anyhow, but I'm pretty sure there's egg in the pizza express dressing

oh there would be at the very least dairy. No, not worried about that type of thing. Just something at all for her to eat.

we have been in a pizza restaurant with df dses, the pizza bases were def dairy free, they made ds1 a pizza up with tomatoes, veg, his choice of meat (bacon etc) and he loved it. ds2 stuck to pasta and bolognaise, his fave. very unusual that we can eat out like this, as you say.

pizza HUT are very into publicising (sp?) their "happy to help" attitude to food intolerances and allergies, the specialist gastro dr and the dietitian my dd sees are always reminding us how good they are (take own GF base etc etc) I guess with the cheese/cross contamination thing (hands in all the pots ), it depends on level of allergy/sensitivity

some pizza huts let the kids prep their own pizzas as part of their party deal

Turniphead I didn't ask about cross contamination.

Is your DD very allergic?
