My lovely boss ❤️

The last 18 months have been incredibly tough; I work for a small company (not in the UK) of only 20 employees and we've struggled through the pandemic. This summer has been stressful with staff on long term sick, problems with suppliers and subsequent soaring costs. Financial support from the government has been inconsistent for both employees and companies.

I'm going on holiday tomorrow (budget break!) so today was my last day. My boss quietly handed me an envelope this morning and said 'Thank you for all your hard work over the summer, buy yourself a drink at the airport'. There was €100 inside, I nearly cried Blush It might not sound like a lot of money to many on here but it will make such a difference to my holiday. And being appreciated means so much after a horrible year 😊

I’m saying this light heartedly
But Under UK payroll rules that would be a big no no.

That's lovely. It sounds as though you earned every penny of that €100 - enjoy your holiday! I'm glad your boss recognises and appreciates all the effort you've made.

Your boss is really lovely. Reminds me of the time, mines handed me vouchers for all my hard work & what he didn't realise was, I was struggling to feed myself on my budget and these leisure vouchers helped massively. I was so grateful.

Enjoy your holiday op. Smile

Thank you all, I've been keeping my head above water and thankful I don't work in the tourist/hospitality sector. I haven't seen my parents for nearly two years which has been too.

How completely lovely. Have a really smashing holiday OP. As a manager I do little things to recognise the effort people have dug deep to keep the wheels on the track. You can't put a price on it.

Even if she were in the UK, @MaybeAMoaner, it might have been a personal gift from the boss rather than from the business...

This happens sometimes in Ireland especially in cash businesses. I've even heard of a special client hinting that they were going on holidays Shock
No doubt the Inland Revenue (tax authorities) would have a fit if they knew.

It was definitely a gift from my boss, a thank you. I've been on my knees this year trying to manage a team that's overworked and under resourced. I had to deal with staff threatening to walk out and another having a mental breakdown. It's literally been the year from hell.
