Anyone starting a healthy eating plan this summer?

LakesAndMountains · 25/07/2021 14:03

I’d like to lose 10lbs over the summer (could do with losing a stone or two)
We have a holiday booked at the end of August and I have big meeting at the beginning of September with lots of people who I work with but have never met because of on line working.
My plan is exercise every day, intermittent fasting and no processed foods.
Anyone else?

Hi, I'd really like to join you. I want to lose weight by the end of August, half a stone would be good. Overall I want to lose 2 stone.

Basically- breakfast, salad for lunch, early dinner, no bread, no desserts/sugar, 1 day of soup and low carb, 1 day of intermittent fasting, plus sticking regular exercise.

Today
Oats, berries, seeds, yoghurt and milk for breakfast (low fat)
2 oat cakes, goats cheese and onion relish for lunch

I've also done a 1 hour uphill walk in the midday heat.

I'll weigh in later. Really determined to make some progress. It tends to turn a bit joyless when I try and lose weight so some group motivation would be fab.

Yup I'm in. Back to work tomorrow after a week away and determined to be more active, more thoughtful about eating healthily and to get back to running and yoga. Have at least a stone I'd like to erase, but mostly I just don't feel quite like the old me. Good luck all!

Me too. Tried earlier in the year and failed but I really need to do something about it now. Starting 1st August though as we're on holiday this week so definitely not the right time to start! But having to do some serious menu planning once we're back - I think just eating sensibly, but no snacking and drinking less should be enough to make a difference, but open to stepping it up if that doesn't work.

Me! Marking place but plan is to eat more 'clean'. This week has been a write off of picnics and ice cream though!

I'm in!!! I get married next August (moved twice now!!) and really need to lose some serious weight and keep it off.

I'm planning on sticking to under 1200 cals and tracking through MFP. I did C25K a couple of months ago and stopped running when I finished so would like to start that up again and we are currently seriously considering getting a peloton bike

We go away mid August so will have a week off but I'm determined to not let that week continue to the end of August so some accountability will be great!

Yes, I'm also on the Why We Eat Too Much thread in weight loss chat.

I'm 40, 5'3" & currently 10st 10lb. Lost a stone of lockdown weight in spring with low carb. Not continuing with that though, as high fat doesn't agree with my stomach. Plan to eat "clean" (yuck, hate that term!). Eliminate processed food, improve my omega 3:6 ratio & glycaemic load. Eat more vegetables. Less meat. I'm disabled due to a chronic pain illness. Am ok to do low impact exercise, walking etc some days, but bedbound on other days.

Ultimate goal weight is 8st 8lb, but if I can get to 9st 7lb I'll be fairly happy. I'm very small framed so every extra pound really shows.

I rarely drink & don't eat much "junk". I've more or less got over my continual chocolate cravings, a small cup of cocoa with a little brown sugar just once or twice a week is enough now. My downfall is the lack of regular exercise, & I think my metabolism is buggered due to long term illness & low muscle mass. Need to increase it.

Me too please!

Lost a good stone and a bit 2 years ago through Fast800 and broadly kept it off... until Lockdown 2, with Lockdown 3 being the absolute killer. Back to square 1 but with the added problem of lost fitness.

What I do know is that fasting works a treat for me, so planning on a reverse 5:2 - fasting during the week, relaxing a bit at weekends. Back into my running and swimming, exercise for relaxation instead of booze (the Lockdown 3 issue....) and no alcohol during the week.

No excuse this time - parkrun is back open, as is our open-air pool so I'm feeling really motivated. Just need a few like-minded folk to help keep me that way!

Smile nice to have company.
I went for a long walk, did some squats, push ups and crunches and got meals and snacks, I had
4 ryvita, hummus, tomatoes
A mango
Handful or tortilla crisps (oops)
Dinner is chicken, small amount of potatoes and veg.
Nothing after dinner.

Me too please. We have become heavily reliant on takeaways of late and I'm sick of it, I feel gross and lethargic.
Need to get myself organised as for me it's lacking time for prep with little DS roaming around like a mad thing, so I just need to stick to it.
I think calorie counting with MFP will work for me as I find it hard to stick to one plan ie low carb at the moment, even though low carb really works for me!

Me too - I did 5:2 for about 10 months and lost 20 pounds. I got fed up with it and starting just counting calories instead. I've stuck on the same weight for the past 4 weeks and still need to lose another 5 to get down to my happy weight.

I'm trying to eat less than my daily calorie intake and walk at least 3km every day - that's easy to do when the weather is nice, but will be a struggle if it's not so nice.

clartymare · 25/07/2021 18:43

@RaraRachael that's a great loss, well done!

So instead of getting a takeaway tonight I'm making veggie pesto pasta with a big side salad. It's not ideal but I haven't got any meat or fish that's not frozen and it's better than pizza!

I've made a goats cheese, pepper and spinach frittata with a bit of reduced fat cheese so I can have a quarter of that for breakfast each day, as I'm terrible with breakfast, or lunch with salad. And I'm planning some salads and small portions of healthy home made curry for the week's dinner.

I need to find some healthy snacks as I think I'm going to find the habit hard to break completely, initially.

We've got a Peloton and I was really good at doing that 5 times a week until I had my jab and felt a bit shitty for a few weeks so I'm going to try and get back on it tomorrow.

I'm in.

I've been healthy eating for the last dew weke sbut I really need to cane in to get rid of the last 5lbs or so.

I've had scrambled eggs and fruit for brekkie, huge tuna salad with soup and and cottage cheese for lunch. Dinner will be Spag bol, small portion, maybe some more soup to take the edge off.

My key to losing is high protein, lower carb. Loads of veg, eggs, meat, fruit, lentils and spuds. Shouldn't be having Spag bol really 🤔

I'm 11st 9 (not that it matters but helpful marker).

Had a biscuit and crisps. I am on holiday though so if I can at least avoid collateral weight damage thats ok!

Dinner - veggie stew and crumble.

Plan tomorrow is another long walk.

I think I’ll fast today. Sometimes it’s easier than thinking about what to eat! I’ll do a salad for 500 cals for dinner.

Me too. Been eating healthier and exercise regularly anyway but was getting up for 7am swims. Been on holiday Been eating cards sugar and drinking alcohol so need to reset now I'm back at work this week. It's hard as we are staying with family so eating healthier goes out the window. Not tracking weight loss. Just looking for clothes to fit better. Half hour swim and now porridge for breakfast but feel guilty as should have done 45mins but the dc got in with me and I felt sick so started shouting. Bad start to day. Hopefully get better.

I have a day's holiday so I'm not being strict today, but am making sensible choices.

Weighed and measured so I have a line in the sand. Booked a swim at the outdoor pool this afternoon. I'm also supposed to be running today and just realised it's 20 degrees already! So I'm kicking myself out the door now - I'm NOT expecting this to be pretty Blush

Fasting is so hard!

I found the fasting really hard as I had to make normal meals for other family members. It was very effective though so worth doing to kick start weight loss.

Calorie counting is the way forward for me as I can still eat crisps and chocolate if I offset them against exercise and other foods. Hopefully I won't stick at the same weight indefinitely.

I really can't fast, I admire anyone who does though! I end up feeling faint with a throbbing headache which has me reaching for the biscuits.

Today I got up and did a 20 minute spin class which was so hard (I am so unfit now) it made me feel sick but I was pleased I'd done it. I've done 12000 steps so far and am about to take DS for another little walk as I'd like to get to 15k today.

So far I`ve eaten a wedge of the spinach and goats cheese frittata I made yesterday with some salad and a fibre one lemon slice when I fancied something with coffee.

Tonight I'm having Moroccan lamb mince with wholewheat couscous and mediterranean veg. Trying to drink lots of water but that part isn't going so well and I've had a lot of coffee instead!

Yes I want to lose weight before returning to school where I work due to covid risk. Probably a stone is my aim

Me too - can I join?

Pre-March 2020 I was eating well and exercising plenty. Things have fallen apart since then. I'm currently too scared to get on the scales but I think I am about 1.5 stone up.

I really want to get back on track. I have started getting back to exercise (aiming for 3 outdoor hiit classes a week), and now I need to focus on improving my diet and cutting out booze.

I've been fasting today - not always, but sometimes I weirdly enjoy it. I think it's when I've been overdoing things (eh hem, holiday week away), and then I just enjoy a feeling of being empty. Is that just me?

Not to say I won't enjoy eating later, but I don't feel desperate about it. Also, I know I'll be hungrier when I actually eat something so I delay as late as possible.

Me.

I've lost 16lb and have another 7-10lb to go.

I'm doing a combination of fasting (16:8) and low carb. I find fasting easy and hate sweet stuff and the sensation of having eaten sweet stuff/carbs unpleasant in my mouth so its the best way to do it for me.

I'm currently 10st 3 but found the difference between 10st 10 and 10st3 in how i look was phenomenal! I'd forgotten really!

I don't think I'd get as low as 8st 8 again - or that I'd look good if I did!

9st 7 is my goal.

Anyway, I just wanted to (hopefully) spur you on to with that next 1/2 st loss really. Good luck! Flowers
