Anybody up for helping me to stay positive? - Weight loss

Although I can't say at the moment I'm being negative. But it just creeps up on me sometimes.

I'm on a weight loss journey, have been for possibly six weeks now. So far I've lost just over a stone.

Problem is, I have a lot of weight to lose (piled on after having DC) so a stone at the moment doesn't make much of a difference to my appearance.

Regardless, I'm excited, and I keep looking forward to when I can fit back into my nice comfy clothes that I used to wear before DC. Whenever I go to the supermarket, I'm eyeing up things I would want to wear when I'm back to my regular weight. Prior to DC I was a size 10 - now I'm a size 16, but bordering on 18. My clothes are very large and are getting a tiny bit too baggy but I'm not planning to buy any more until I reach my target, that's my reward.

I just keep having pangs of worry that I'm going to fail, and it's the most annoying feeling ever! Logically I know that if I continue one day at a time, I can do this. But for some reason, my brain won't let me focus on that fact for very long.

Anybody with any positive stories? Words of caution? A proverbial slap around the face to stop whining? Anything that might help me keep going?

TIA Smile

I think the best advice I can give you is take it one day at a time. A pound doesn’t sound like much, but keep chipping away at it and they all add up to great losses!

I’ve recently lost nearly 5 stone since having DD losing 1/2 pounds a week so it’s taken a while but honestly think how great you’ll feel in 6 months time and you’ll thank yourself.

I have a dress which was my “goal dress” and I can finally zip it up, need to shift another stone to be completely happy though.

You can do it, whatever your doing it’s working - do not give up x

Thank you Smile and wow! Congratulations! That must feel amazing. From what I understand, losing slowly means you're more likely to keep it off. You must be so proud of yourself! At the moment, I'm only proud that I've seen a difference. My body hasn't changed much to look at in the mirror, although I'm probably missing some stuff because I'm my own worst critic. I will pull out one of my old items of clothing (a forgiving one) and make that my goal item!

Try a daily walk. Borrow a dog if you don't have one. Make some delicious low calorie options. Don't buy crisps or chocolate bars. Only cook half portions of carbs. Then let others serve themselves first. There might only be s bit of pasta left for you. I have done that and it works. Eat berries for energy. Gyms are opening at end of July and swimming pools. One thing I do is go upstairs to the loo on the daytime instead of using downstairs one. Drink loads of ices water. If you lose one dress size get one new dress to inspire you.

I post on a thread on the weightloss board [[https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight_loss_chat/3955008-Lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month-July-thread ]]

The posters are at varying stages of their diet and follow different diets too. We post for support, ideas, accountability and so on. Some people post daily, others rarely. It might be what you're looking for? Smile

One stone is excellent- well done! How are you losing it?

I've been going for 9 weeks and I've just lost my second stone and definitely starting to see the difference in my face now Grin

I'm scared of dogs 😂. But I absolutely agree with the walking, that's something I need to do more of. I'm able to go out now with DC so I've been taking them out for little walks. I'll increase that. I too use the upstairs loo! And I love cooking so making low calorie things has been great. I've been impressed that things that you can buy that are high in calories can often be made at home for half the calorie cost.

I'm interested about the dress thing, I've been of the opinion that it would be a 'waste' to buy a dress that fits me now and won't in a month. But does it actually help spur you on? Would you recommend it?

@GetTheStartyParted yes! That's exactly the kind of thing I need. Thank you!

@hermyweasley I started following a Keto diet but my body just really didn't take to it well at all, I was feeling sick and crap and grumpy. But in the first week, I was also restricting calories. So when I realised that I was actually capable of doing that, I reintroduced carbs within a much lower calorie limit. It means that if I REALLY want ice cream, I can have a tablespoon. Funnily enough though, I've gone off pasta and bread, because it takes up so many calories that I could be eating elsewhere Grin. WELL DONE on losing your second stone! I'm very impressed by the achievements here.

Thanks all 🥰

I always find I don’t see it on myself OP, a Stone is a great achievement you should be so proud. Celebrate all the little milestones!

I found having something that honestly was miles away from fitting and getting closer and closer proved to me it was working since sometimes it’s hard to see the difference yourself.

The time will go by regardless and this is one thing you are totally in control of - just think in the new year you won’t be starting a new again, you’ll be continuing your journey and feeling so much better!

See that's what I'm most looking forward to @Teacaketotty - I prefer winter clothes to summer clothes anyway. At the moment I can get away with leggings and a huge dress or T-shirt, but for Christmas and new year I'd love to be able to wear some nice warm jumpers, jeans, cardigans. And you're very right, the time will go by regardless. In six months time I can either be kicking myself or proudly pulling up a pair of size 12 jeans. I know it's my choice! I just wish I could shake the self doubt.
