Pressure king pro or slow cooker

Yes, I do realise they’re the total opposite of each other!

About to start longer hours at work and looking for either quick dinners or something I can stick on in the morning and leave (although if I’m honest I’d rather not leave something on all day!)

Can they be compared or are they 2 completely separate machines?! If so, which to go for!

TIA

They are totally separate, but most electronic pressure cookers can be used as a slow cooker as well.

I personally have an instant pot and have never used the slow function. I use the pressure cooker function constantly. It also makes yogurt.

Thank you!

Would you recommend the instant pot?

I wouldn’t get either, get an instant pot instead. I use mine loads, a really handy machine.

I like my instant pot a lot and I would recommend it. I'm not sure how much it differs from any other electronic pressure cooker, though!

I never used my slow cooker. I got rid of it. I use my pressure cooker all the time. I have an instant pot, but I'm sure the pressure king pro would do a similar job.

definitely get an instant pot! No need for a slow cooker.

Too many options!

Instant Pot here too Grin. Love the yogurt making setting, I use it for proving dough too.

I will be honest, I’m v unlikely to make yogurt in it Grin

What is it good for?

I find when I use the slow cooker at work, if I don’t add a ridiculous amount of herbs and spices then it’s v bland, is it similar with the instant pot?

Instant pot can end up with a watery result but it's usually flavourful so long as you follow normal recipe principles (brown food before cooking, ensure you have salted sufficiently, add appropriate amounts of herbs and spices). I suggest building in some time to reduce any sauces you create.

Cook a joint of meat in under an hour. Stews, chillis, curries, soups etc in 20 mins (with rice or potatoes in too). Once its switched on you can walk away, no stirring, splattering or smells. It has a timer and a good keep hot function. You can sauté in it. You can also use the sauté function for a few minutes at the end of cooking if you need to thicken something up (there does need to be a minimum amount of liquid to create steam). Make porridge in it.

You need less liquid when using the instant pot in for example bolognese and curry. It takes a bit of practice but it’s worth it.

@Hairyheadphones every time I try to make Bolognese, I get the burn message and in fact the tomato scorches. Are you saying this doesn't happen to you???

I have a pressure king pro and a slow cooker. I use the PKP at least 4 times a week, the slow cooker hasn’t been used since I got it.

It does take a bit of practice. I never add any additional water to my food as I always add lots of veg with high water content (carrot, courgette, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers). I absolutely love it.

My husband was all Hmm when I got it but is now a complete convert. We’ve even made rice pudding in about 10 mins when the children mentioned they’d like it for dessert.

@dellacucina I know you weren’t asking me, and my PKP doesn’t have a scorch warning but I read somewhere to put tomatoes in last (including any chopped tomato) over the top of the other ingredients and not mixed to prevent scorching. I’ve never scorched tomatoes following this advice.

I definitely need to do some more research!

I love the idea of when doing curry/spag bol, I can use one machine to sauté the onion/brown meat/ toast spices which a slow cooker doesn’t do. Do all models of the. Pkp or instant pot do these??

Definitely the Instant Pot. Previously I had a Pressure King Pro and I used it often and did a perfectly acceptable job. Once I saw my friends Instant Pot I was a convert and I have since upgraded to the Instant Pot.

The PKP inner pot is coated with that black nonstick coating. The IP inner pot is stainless steel and much easier to clean, you don't need to worry about scratching the bottom etc.

My IP has more functions than the PKP but I think it just depends on which model you get.

I get better results in the IP than I did with the PKP using the same recipes and timing.

The IP is much better quality, sturdier and better made.

The IP is more expensive but imo a much better product.

I promise I don't work for IP but I use mine multiple times a week and wouldn't be without it.

The pressure king is bloody brilliant. It's not basically an instant pot just under different branding and is cheaper.

I use mine almost daily (often more than once) and gave my slow cooker away after having it a few weeks.

Honestly the best piece of kitchen equipment I own, I would buy another without hesitation if it broke.

Loads of recipes online with instant pot instructions. Cannot recommend enough.

I've a pressure king pro and a slow cooker, and since I bought the pkp I haven't used the slow cooker once! Honestly I can't recommend it enough, it's fantastic. I use it 3 or 4 times a week minimum and it doesn't leave the food with that distinctive stewed taste like the slow cooker does.
