Me and Dh having a debate about this. He thinks I need to cover up when getting out the shower dd is 6 and ds 3. I think Dh is being weird who’s right?

My kids are aged between 8 and 4 and still don't worry about it. When they get embarrassed I guess.

I think he’s being very odd.

DS is 8.5 and I’m starting to think I should stop changing my bottom half in front of him (ie before he starts to feel embarrassed). DD is younger, I’ll stop in front of her when she tells me to!

How far are you walking, are the DC in the bathroom with you I always cover up straight away as it gets chilly.

My son is 14 and I still get changed in front of him!

When they indicate uncomfortableness.

As long as you indicate they have control of their body and that they can tell you if they are uncomfortable I see no issue.

I've seen my Mum naked on and off since a young child - I don't feel traumatised.

When they are embarrassed. My 6 and 7yo dds will still get in the bath with me given half a chance.

I have definitely shared a double bed with my dm and got changed in front of her as an adult.

I guess 10 or so. I don't 'parade' around (DD is now 12), but if she walks in on me getting changed, so be it, not going to stress.

Naturally, she now chooses to get changed behind closed doors, and has done for a couple of years, I think.

I have never wandered around naked in front of my DC, and I always lock the bathroom door.

My parents are 74 and 70 and I am 41. We aren’t naked in front of each other often but have no problem with it if the situation arises. My Dad will chat to me in the bath. Why are people weird about nudity?
I have a DS and it’s fine if he wants to cover up that’s fine. I will always walk around naked in my own house sometimes.

My 8 and 6 year olds are very happy to barge in while I am getting changed. My 12-year-old would be very embarrassed!

Your kids will let you know when they are uncomfortable / embarrassed by it.

My eldest (11) is still not bothered about me being naked round her, DH is more comfortable with at least pants on round the DDs. I think for a child the same sex you shouldn't worry and it's healthy for them to see 'normal' naked adult bodies to counteract the bodies they will see on film and TV. For a child the opposite age you need to be a bit more sensitive to their feelings but generally the same thing applies.

Aim to phase it out before adolescence. Sure, nakedness is more the norm for some families, but by then there should be locks on bathroom doors and privacy no blatant nudity.

I’m the opposite.

When dd2 got to around four I made Dh stop dashing from the shower starkers. He sleeps in the nude so if she gets in bed for a cuddle I make him get up and put boxers on.

I’d happily be starkers in front of my eldest dd1 she is 23 but she would kick off Grin

DS is nearly 6 and I've just started to be conscious of it now because the other day when getting changed in the hallway he told me to "cover up your boobies." Grin

Doesn't bother me but I don't want him to feel uncomfortable.

DGS is 11 and still wanders round naked in front of me after his bath. And thinks nothing of coming into my bedroom to chat to me when I'm getting dressed. I'm pretty sure it'll all change soon!
At the ages your DC are I don't think they give it a moment's thought. Your DH's attitude with make them self-conscious about the human body.

My DD’s are 14 & 12, and although I don’t strut around the house naked, I don’t hide from them or lock bathroom doors. If they walk into my room when I’m getting changed I carry on as normal. I will also run downstairs naked to grab a particular set of underwear off the radiator.

I think it's a good idea for children to see 'normal' bodies and that people aren't ashamed of the body they are in.
Most children will let you know if they feel uncomfortable and be able to explain why.

I was brought up in France. M and D (now both deceased) were naturists. They were well adjusted professional people and good parents. They never covered up in front of my sister or me. Neither were they naked most of the time, save for the beach etc.

We were taught that there was nothing wrong with bodies but some people were silly about it. We were also told that there were “bad people” out there. So we were body positive but not naive.

During our early teens sister and tended to cover up when changing etc but only for a few years.

I like to think M and D’s attitude produced 2 strong minded women who were relaxed about their own bodies.

I’m mid-20s and currently staying with my parents with my DH and DS. I took the baby in to see them this morning and we chatted whilst they got dressed. I didn’t see anything really as I wasn’t looking but I was certainly in the same room as my nude parents! I would happily walk into the bathroom to grab my toothbrush or whatever if either one of them was in the bath/shower. It’s never been a big deal. I don’t plan on covering up in front of DS unless he becomes uncomfortable with it.

@StarlightLady My parents are pretty much exactly the same. They aren’t exactly ‘naturists’ but would definitely have no problem with nude swimming at a quiet beach for example!

I have grown up girls and we changed at the gym last week. I don't walk around the house naked but I walk around the landing to the bathroom and sunbathe in the garden as does dh. (Just not if they have "guests")

My dc is 12 and if I get out of the bath and she is around (one bathroom) there is no problem although occasionally she has asked me to put underwear on if I start wandering naked.
